Star trek, newer series are terrible though, both for star trek and star wars
Babylon 5 is amazing, not sure what to think about the animated movie that came out recently. Will have to see what comes next |

Watched all of them and agree that Babylon 5 is brilliant. Deep space nine is my favourite star trek series.
Space 1999 was my favourite growing up and The Expanse and to a lesser degree For all Mankind are just on a different level completely. |

"More of an alien / predator kinda guy"
Massive love for Alien 1-4. Loved how Prometheus looked and felt amazing but was ultimately boring.
The latest one I can't even remember it's name as it left no impression whatsoever |

Have watched the Star wars movies but strangely have zero interest in the tv shows.
Star Trek is a different story. Remember watching voyager with my father every time it was on. And absolutely love Strange New World. Can't wait for the next season
And obviously I watched Babylon 5 back in the days.
There are some good newer sci-fi shows as well that I rather enjoy. Though they aren't quite in the same league as the older ones. |

I think that Strange New Worlds is the closest they have come to capturing the magic of the original show. The newer movies just never felt like they were even the same characters. |

There's roughly 800 episodes of star trek across all the seasons and I've seen pretty much all in the last thirty years. Watched the original series with my mom when we got Sky One.
I've loved pretty much all of them except that one with the pretty Vulcan lady. Enterprise?
I've been avoiding Strange New Worlds because I'm afraid I won't like it and really want to like it. |

What about The Expanse?
I think they set the bar for everything going forward. |

"The Wrath of Khan is the standout original movie for me but they all made a deep impression as a child.
I also love Star Trek into darkness. Benedict Cumberbatch just absolutely killed it."
Yes and YES |

Star trek. The next generation was my gateway to it. Watched Voyager and DS9 religionusly growing up. I stopped watching during enterprise and haven't seen the new ones apart from the newer trek movies. Starwars is also a massive favourite of mine and I love the tv spinoffs as well as the movies (apart from the phantom menace because that was shite) Babylon 5 was brilliant and I will be watching the new animation as soon as I can. I read a lot of the 40k novels if you consider them scifi.

"Yeah the wrath of Kahn was the awesome. I had nightmares about those ear yokes.
"
Remember that episode of The Next Generation that had that crawly thing that went in their mouths and took over their brains?
That was up there with the ear things for me. Stuff of nightmares you'd never get in family TV now. |

M: So A decided to reply without me on my favorite topic that calls for "punishment" later on anyways:
Babylon 5 was and is my absolute favorite on TV side, followed by the Expanse. I love the Orville which is basically TNG continued (if you take out the over the top comedy first 2-3 episodes he needed to get FOX greenlight it) and Strange New Worlds as it really recaptures the old TOS style.
on book side: The Expanse series, Foundation series, Enders Game series, a lot of the classic ones but my all time favorite is "The Songs of Distant Earth" - I dont know why but I keep re-reading that book again and again for the last 20 years - its even better if you turn on the album by Mike Oldfield in the background. |

"Star trek is the best and I mean all trek.
For me that includes galaxy quest and the orville.. Both get honorary trek status for me "
This is controversial and exactly that kind of thing we encourage around here. |

"Galaxy Quest is such an hilarious spoof. Loved it.
I'm surprised Dr Who hasn't had a mention..
Did anyone like reading Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's?"
Ooh love Hitchhiker's and Galaxy Quest! Great mentions |

"What is MST3K?
Some bold statements to follow
The Matrix is a perfect movie.
The Matrix 4 is a beautiful love story and made me cry
We don't talk about 2 and 3"
MST3K= Mystery Science Theater 3000
It's been around since the 80s.. guys making jokes while watching terrible B movies (often old sci fi andonster flicks), interspersed with ridiculously silly low budget bits with puppet robots.. it's bonkers and I love it |

Rushing home to see Star Trek as a child probably because it was small screen was a great introduction to science fiction along with Buck Rodgers and another tv great The Time Tunnel and the movies like Planet of the Apes really pushed the boat out with one’s imagination but for me 2001 a space odyssey was a true great movie the set the bar for Ridley Scott’s Alien and Bladerunner |

"I was a huge fan of Buck Rogers
Never had the cult love of Firefly
Event Horizon is one of my favourite sci-fi movies of all time. It's seared into my mind
Erin Gray was sci-fi just by herself. "
Wilma Dearing. Jesus she was something else alright |

"Star Trek the Origional Series is what I love. The over the top theatrical acting, the cheesy low budget costumes, it has a charm that no other Star trek captures"
Actually, at the time, it was the most expensive TV show ever made. |

That show was brilliant. Remember it had to do with someone who produced the X-Files. Half the main cast ended up in that as guest actors or in milliennium. |

Huge SF nerd here, books mainly as most of the TV and movie efforts are left wanting. Notable exceptions being The Expanse and BSG before it (literally) lost the plot. More recently Silo was excellent.
Clarke, Asimov, Niven all huge favourite authors from the past. Andy Wier is excellent and John Scalzi mixes SF with humour very well. |
