So people can you remember "Where were you on this September day"?

As most of the world stands shoulder to shoulder with America on this September day.

As we remember 09/11/01 or 11/09/01 for all of us. Remembering all the people that died on the day & sence, RIP to them.

After what was/is the biggest terrorist attack on a Nation, in this century.

I was in Fas training centre in Limerick at the time.

somewhere

Dunnes stores Bishopstown at a meeting

Came out into the shop and people had abandoned their trollies in the aisles to walk to a telly on the wall showing sky news

Listened to RTE the whole way home to Dublin and immediately watched sky news for the evening

Far far away

I was in Sydney Australia. Friends came home from the cimema and turned on a tiny tv we had in the house. I remember us all crouched around it watching the plane crash into twin towers over and over in disbelief.

I had been to New York previously and had a camcorder recording of it.

"At a meeting on the 13th. floor of County Hall in Cork."

Unusual, 13th floor is usually omitted in big building. 12 to 14. The architect was obviously not superstitious

I was at swiss border getting ready to clear customs. I’d a fair bit of drink the night before. Anyway I was getting out of the lorry and an English lorry driver said to me something hit the twin towers. Me not knowing what the twin towers where I said back to him. Well it wasn’t me, I’ve been park here since yesterday evening. I was thinking it was the pier on way into the custom depot that was knocked ??

I was sitting in English class, in the US. Such a surreal day. I will never forget it.

We had German students living with us at the time and I felt so bad for them, it was a scary situation to witness being thousands of miles from home.

Stupid me

I forgot to ask has anybody been to groud 0, sence it happened?

Also I don't think I heard that much about it, if anything at all. Until we were told that we'd be off for 2 day's, cause of it. Didn't see any news on TV or that much of it, at the time.

All very interesting answers so far.

Ya I'd say America was a surreal place to be at the time alright.

Them poor German students, must have felt really lost & wanting to go home straight away afterwards alright.

The West

I remember watching the news when the first plane hit and initially everybody thought it was a terrible accident, how could it have happened, then the second plane hit. It was surreal!

That day and the reaction after changed the world in our lifetime, probably irreparably.

In hindsight, the way Bush used it as a platform to invade Iraq and the profiteering of his inner circle was disgusting.

18 Irish people died that day.

Came home from school, delighted with myself as my father was in charge of us that afternoon, and he would always let us watch tv straight after school, mam wouldn’t until dinner was eaten/homework was done. Nearly broke my neck getting in the door to turn on cartoons, but instead every single channel was the same: buildings with smoke billowing out of them. I knew by my dads reaction it was really really bad, my dads nephew was/is a member of FDNY and we were hoping he was not there.

I was in work and my office had 2 TVs on constantly for News Channels updates.

I remember thinking briefly 'who changed the channels to the same movie?'

Then I realised it was real and cried.

A friend sent me this on FB on the Anniversary Eve.

On this night 17 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. Tonight as you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.???????? #wewillneverforget????????

My second cousins husband was in the FDNY and was killed that day. Didnt know him at all but it certainly hit home that we could all be affected as i got older.
