When getting a one worded response to a message that tried to engage a conversation, would you put it down to being the 100th person to message that day and they dont have the energy or arrogance and you should cut your losses? |

No its actually very rude and shows dis-interest.
If you cant be bothered to reply with more than one word, dont bother replying at all.
There are zero excuses, esp if She is then online for ages...
Take a hint....

"So what's it called when they send the opening message, you reply and they revert to one word answers?
They were interested enough to get in touch in the first place. "
This is the one which baffles me. I put it down to they are sending the same message to all profiles which have a woman and when I (only ever me on the site he never uses it) reply they look at profile and think opps (drew short straw) and have to reply so will send a yea/ yeah/ good response post an essay original one. I wonder at times do they look at the profiles prior to messaging to ensure the people are their cup of tea.

The thing I find though is that the opening message is full of enthusiasm and tells me how amazing my pics are and they love my bio but as soon as I reply to thank them they switch to one word replies.
From experience I know exactly why they do that.
I'm not one for blowing smoke up people's arses so I thank them for their lovely message but if they have a lazy or can't be arsed bio and crap pics I'm not going to tell them they have an amazing profile.
It's pretty obvious they are used to getting compliments and they aren't sure how to carry on a conversation that doesn't include any. |

I’m such a benefit of the doubt kind of person. But if it’s multiple one word responses then I’d get bored and wouldn’t bother. I usually try a bit of back and forth. Put a bit of effort and banter into a message (not just one boring question) and see if they pick up on anything I’ve said to respond to. If you get 2 short messages after you’ve put a bit of effort in I’d jog on to the next |
