To say we have no hope is worse than saying we don’t have a chance and since we’ve already qualified we clearly have a chance, ergo I find your hypothesis to be incorrect, ipso facto……

so do Romania , Portugal etc but in reality havnt a prayer. Joking aside, we’re 1 in the world but I can’t see us winning it. To many tough games. We might not even progress past the pool. Hope I’m wrong but just don’t think we’re good enough to win many a big game and bring home a World Cup.

Beating one of South Africa or Scotland, presuming we beat Romania and Tonga should see us through to the QF unless we end up tied in a strange three way... Uh matron.

The only realistic QF opponents will be France and New Zealand, that's shit but it's our first real crunch game and if we somehow pull it off, the reward is a semi final against a team from the remedial side of the draw, we will make the final if we get that far.

scotland Ireland is a 50/50 game and could well come down to who we have available. We play South Africa 6 days previous. we will be rank outsiders if we do get to a quarter. Hopefully we do win it but no matter what way I look at it, I can’t see it.

it’s not who we have not proven we can’t beat. It’s putting in huge performances matches in matches out over the course of many weeks. Potentially have to beat South Africa, Scotland, France/ New Zealand and that’s just to make a semi. Everyone will dare to dream but people are also realistic. Ireland have had great teams before entering world cups and then implode. I don’t expect the same to happen this time but we are in the pool of death as they call it with a very difficult quarter if we do come out. I’m watching many diff rugby podcasts with experts and nobody yet has said we will make the semis, never mind win it. I’d love to see POM sign off with a World Cup medal. On a side note they’ll have to change how World Cup draws are done in future. All the big/main teams on one side of it.

s Africa will be favs to beat Ireland and strong favs. Ireland will be favs right now to beat Scotland but come that last pool game, it could all depend what players are available as to who wins it. That’s what I was saying. We have s Africa 6 days before Scotland in what will be an almighty physical battle. It all remains to be seen what unfolds. To me. South Africa are peaking to perfection.

I've already corrected you on the 6 days, there will be 2 weeks between the South Africa and Scotland matches. It doesn't do much for your credibility that you persist with the 6 days argument.

South Africa are in good shape but have significant weaknesses, particularly at 10 where Libbok is the only specialist 10 in the squad and while he can have moments of brilliance, his kicking game can be hit and miss, and when it's a miss, his all round game tends to fall apart.

Nowhere

Definitely following it all OP while not lucky or wealthy enough to attend I’ll be pulling on the jersey and having pints of Heino.. might leave the loafers behind at Dricos place..

Like all has said it could be a very predictable getting out of the group only to be crushed by France/AB but we have the best chance with the best prepped team ever.. hopefully all goes well

"s Africa will be favs to beat Ireland and strong favs.

South Africa are in good shape but have significant weaknesses, particularly at 10 where Libbok is the only specialist 10 in the squad and while he can have moments of brilliance, his kicking game can be hit and miss, and when it's a miss, his all round game tends to fall apart."

sorry 2 weeks. The same applies after a more than likely brutal battle with South Africa. Strong chance also Pollard will be back for them. I’d fancy us to come out of group but if we imploded , would it surprise me? No. It has happened before, more than once and this time we have a harder group with a tougher quarter opponent if we get out. keeping certain personal fit is the key to having a chance to do anything. I don’t believe we have the quality in certain positions if we pick up injuries. Hope we can win it but I can’t see it.

Obviously a wind up merchant. Take no notice. Ireland will smash Scotland. If we come through without injuries we'll beat France or New Zealand. SA the real problem for us with their sheer size.

Bazz thinks this group(the players at least) will go much further than most think.

Reasonably interested, easily distracted.

Don't think they will, and then the usual pundits will analyse it within an inch of their lives!!

I think England are poor enough but they have the soft side of the draw. Argentina could beat them.

Lol you clearly haven’t watched any of their warm up matches. England will be lucky to get out of their pool.

id be amazed if Ireland smash Scotland if both have near best 15s available.7-10 points in it maximum I’d say. Scotland are vastly improved. It’s a mouthwatering pool but the draw is totally lobsided. Id be hoping we can come out but do I see us beating France or New Zealand? No. I keep saying it but we need certain personal fit and the most important of all is sexton. Opposition will target him from the get go.

I’ll be watching it, however as a Scotland fan.

The group is tough for us with Ireland and South Africa in it.

I do love it when rwc comes around ..I've been watching every 4 years for as long as I can remember and history dictates that Ireland will crash out, they seem to place so much emphasis on the 6 nations and when world cup comes along it's almost as if it doesn't matter, last world cup under joe Schmidt was a pathetic attempt altogether .. Ireland have never gone beyond the quarter finals in wc , isn't that a shocking inditement of supposedly top tier rugby nation, let's hope the green bottlers can do something good this time

last World Cup under JS we looked impressive coming into it also. I hope things are different under Farrell.

We looked impressive before it because we peaked too early

I very much hope the same doesn’t happen this time.

Looks like we have a stronger panel this time.

The draw is the biggest hinderance

Previous Irish teams hung on for big wins, this is a different team, they know how to win, either from the front or dirty if they have to. Injuries is the biggest threat to their chances

Confidence is the great equaliser. The difference between this team and teams of yesteryear is I think they believe if they put forward the best version of themselves they will win the world cup. And I think they just might. Here's to giving the whole of France 2 fingers after we stuff em in the final for booing us of the bayonne pitch last week.

Ooh la la
