Just got my renewal from FBD , it's gone from €430 to €570. Never had a claim . Anyone find theirs going through the roof??. Going to spend an hour on Internet to see what I can find.

Perhaps your current insurer have become aware about something "going through the roof" and are increasing your premium in anticipation of a claim.

Personally don't have home insurance.

I find Car Insurance is a big head wrecker, in general. Try other insurers, then go bad to FBD & see what they say.

It's the rebuild cost is the issue materials have gone through the roof in the past 12 months plus with the new regulations you have to rebuild the house to a higher spec so that's the main issue. Jobs I was doing 18 months ago ate costing 50% extra because materials have more than doubled in some cases

As I work in insurance with the cost of living increase and the cost of rebuilding a house now with the current material prices premiums are going to increase go to the society of chartered surveyors website and see what it would cost to rebuild your home if it was destroyed most premiums will actually reflect the building cost.

House insurance is a hateful necessity unfortunately but read the small print ….. family member ( in their 80’s) recently tried claiming for storm damage to a roof …. The insurance company reply was oh storm winds have to be over 51mph and in your area highest reported speed was 48mph so it’s not storm damage, they argued about years with the company etc but still won’t pay out.

So don’t just get any old policy

Up in the North here and our house ins in 2021 went through the roof. Yes we had a small claim years ago, insurer at the time and previous years knew about it so wasn't that. Got bullshit story of more risk since Covid more people spending longer at home and more inclined to be doing DIY.

Anything to do with House insurance is just headwrecking..they look for a loophole not to pay ..and they have zillions in the small print.. they'll take your money all the time but if it comes to them paying out ..don't hold your breath..l had a visit yonks ago..and in the end ..a few minutes tbh ..l told him the best thing he could do is leave ..they will do anything to avoid paying out ..they thrive on the " what if " and make loads of money doing so ..that's my opinion of them anyway, l know some might think different.
