Maybe sound stupid but have you use blindfolds... I use them and help me to go sleep faster as source of my insomnia in big way was light what was coming from the street... |

"Try some relaxing music maybe or smoke some green.that works for me when I couldn't sleep most nights.
And I change as well a bit my routine "
Can I ask OP, when you do your planning is it all an internal monologue? Two things worked for me for a while when I had something similar (I was working one job and trying to get a company off the ground). My planning was all internal and extremely darty in my mind so even when i made a decision at 2am I couldn't settle on it because my chipmunk brain would override it shortly after.
Put a plan down on paper before bed or even better discuss it with your SO and ask him/ her to stick to the plan with you. Talking it out definitely helped me to settle the mind. After that it was just a case of working through all the embarrassing moments in my life over and over. So ya... enjoy |

I found the best thing for me was not to try to sleep at all
If my mind was churning....just stop worrying ....turn on a side light and read a book
I could read all night or an hour but I'd usually fall asleep when I needed to
Never turn on my phone |

Sounds like you are entertaining the thoughts instead of making a decision to deal with them tomorrow. Don't push them out of your mind (that won't help) just try not to focus on them, focus on black instead and don't fret. It won't work the first few times but practice (without beating yourself up when it doesn't work) is key and it really does work.
What a poster pointed out about using an eye mask is also good advice, those things are brilliant and they work.
Good luck with it. |

Valerian root extract, a silk sleep mask and sleep sounds is my go to. It might take a while to find the sleep sounds that work for you and others really is a trial and error thing
Also like Bogman, if I can't sleep, rather than fight it, I'll get up, have a cup of decaf tea and watch TV for a while. I find if I chase sleep it eludes me |

"No screens before sleep. If mind flying, come back to focus on breath and as someone said, don't try to hard to sleep. Also make sure to being out and about for some time each day. "
And a chamomile tea or a tea like thatl |

"White noise works a treat. If you don't want to get a machine you can find videos on YouTube about an hour or so long. Pop it on and put your phone away. Usually works for us. "
My son plays white noise on the smart speaker in his room most nights to sleep |

My son in law plays white noise. First time I ever heard of them tbh.
I find if I write things down it helps. The problem/issue, stage its at and next move. Then close the book as nothing else I can do about it till tomorrow.

I get the running sometimes and if I'm tired I find it hard not to drift back into the swirl of thoughts.
I've learned to watch the thoughts sas if I'm standing outside them if that makes sense. Like watching a movie or listening to the radio. No judgment just letting all the thoughts pass by like clouds. Sometimes there's a gap in the clouds and they grow over time. |

Sorry 2 I didn't read back. Drive by post!
Another thing I learned while I was working in Burma as part of a circus that visited refugee camps was to sleep anywhere in any conditions.
I could sleep in the back of a jeep on a bumpy dirt road or on a yoga mat on ground anywhere.
I'll try to describe the trick. You know when you're home tired. Dead tired and your eyes won't stay open and it feels like sleep is a cloud enveloping your brain? Some people describe it as a feeling of falling. Falling asleep.
I found that it I found and focused on that sensation in my head and sort of grew it to envelop my thinking and sensory mind that I could gain rest almost anywhere.
Best of practice it as part of nap time as I found bed time to be very habitual and harder to break the routine.
Sleep is one of my hobbies. I can sleep for Ireland. |

Chances are it's nothing to do with the load of random stuff. The small manual tasks and random stuff, Overoccupying your mind is usually an indication that there is something more worrying you. Are you getting a chance to talk about it ? |

Something I've done to help the past couple of years (I've always had trouble sleeping) go for a walk in the evenings.
I spend the first half of my walk figuring out all the things to do the following day and make plans. Then I force my mind to think about everything/anything else on the second half of the walk on just wind the brain down. |

Yep ... It's the same for racing mind or anxiety... The worry about your mind racing and being anxious is enough to keep you in a pepetual loop. Sometimes we just need to stop and say OK my mind is racing that's fine that's where I am right now and it will pass eventually.
Getting up out of the bed when you can't sleep is the best idea because if not your mind begins to associate the bedroom with racing thoughts. |

Used to suffer a good bit from insomnia but one of the best pieces of advice I got was not to catasrophise about the issues it causes. So practice positive thinking like ‘sure it’s only one night’s sleep, I’ll be sleepy tomorrow, but what of it’
Often part of the worry about not sleeping is the day after, and worrying you’ll be too tired to sleep, look after the kids, etc. If you remove that worry it won’t solve insomnia but it definitely interrupts the negative worry cycle I find. |
