Is it just me.. Or has my taste in food and fancy cocktails reached fever pitch.. That my morning after handbag rumble is coins not crumpled notes. That my bank app alerts me... Stop tapping you loon when Im waving my card at the bar man..
Is the cost of a night out really now that costly... Am I alone in this.. Weekends away are curtailed and my hangover is now my bank balance after a night away..
Money saving tips welcome. Ill send to RTÉ for their next series... |

We were talking about the same tonight but if we don’t go out are we missing something
If we don’t go to Kilkenny or Dublin at the cost it is now we would get a break away with the kids club included
Don’t know yet we’ll see |

We have our holiday booked so what we are doing now is making sure we can enjoy everything that the place we visit has to offer
Excursions and stuff a lot cheaper |

With the cost of night outs constantly increasing and wages not the only money saving tip I can give is; buy a few cans and bottles and organise a little house gathering.
But those quite nights out and now quite expensive. |

Absolutely bonkers prices in Dublin now and I love eating out/cocktails etc
Hotels are ridiculous prices! It's actually cheaper to go away for a weekend abroad than go out in Dublin
I saw an article recently for a pub in Galway pints of Guinness for €3.90!! I need to move to Galway lol pints are more than double that in Dublin!

Sorry to disappointed, but the average cost of a pint of Guinness in rural Galway is anything from €4.8-€5.50.
The city is closer to €6 and over.
There are one or two pubs around Galway that open once or twice a year to keep their licence, they usually sell at nearly cost price!..But €3.90, no, not since 2001! |

Yeah, prices are just nuts especially if you have to take a cab to/from town, let a lone a hotel room.
I'll be heading to Birmingham in August for 5 days and that costs less than a single night in Dublin including round trip flights... |

Imagine what used to be a special treat for a couple
2 tickets for a gig
Dinner
A few drinks
Hotel
Prices have gone up so high that only the drinks and dinner are affordable.....thats if you're not getting a babysitter |

Its a shame that we gave to curtail "living" on the basis of curbing inflation.
After 2 years of lockdown, I want enjoy my nights out.. But it looking like a wine and a block rocking beats dance around the kitchen.. |

Luckily the urge to go out decreases with age, well at least it did in my case . I go for the odd one pint so that I can still drive up the hill.
And I've reduced my restaurant visits to special occasions only.
I don't even do takeaways anymore, as it almost always turns into a frustrating experience. If the quality doesn't live up it gets me annoyed with myself for wasting money on crap food.
So solution is to invite friends and cook myself. |

Dublin city |
Money has no value , it’s turned into salt in your hands, just dissolves.
We’ve all been saying the same thing. Going out less , restaurants are not as good as they were. Buddy of ours goes through stints of no booze and pays 7 euro for non alcoholic, wtf??!! On top of that the city centre is rubbish now , no atmosphere, I’ve never drank in tem bar , and wouldn’t , dump.
Friends of ours down country were looking to go to a gig in Dublin and it was actually cheaper to fly to the UK for the four of us book a hotel and have two days knocking about , than it was to do the gig here and two days of food & drinks.
Even take away, prices have jumped , you get less too. |

Heard a guy on the radio a while back. He bought tickets for his family for a concert in Dublin. When he went to book accomodation for the night it was so expensive he sold the tickets, bought tickets for the same concert in Spain, booked flights and accomodation for 3 nights and it ended up being cheaper

No doubt it did. But what about the cost of food, drink and transport for those 3 days. Not the same. |

Your idea could be a possible new series presented by Tubs.
Just make sure you get a signed contract complete with separate commercial deals and get paid in advance for any shows that will still remain to be made. End to all your money woes. |

I go through airports twice a day on a regular basis, as well as multiple train stations.
Airports are so easy now, a 3 day trip is a carry on bag, hop on - hop off, airport pints, go somewhere different. What's not to love!! |

Our family of five went on holidays recently, three carry on cases and a back pack each.
Checking in 20kg bags is usually unnecessary, unless you've a baby or something.
Didn't get the pint in. Mrs spent an age in the Loop!! |

We’ve stopped going to concerts in Dublin lately. Hotel, parking , dinner and a few drinks amount to 50% of the cost of a week in the sun. Spend 4 days of a staycation in Connemara near the end of the lockdown. Never again!! Asked for €19 euro for a cheeseboard so we could get a drink in the hotel bar! I love this country but unless you’re into camping, a holiday at home is unaffordable for most people |

"I know people that go to gigs in 3Arena
Hang around afterwards in town for a few drinks
Get the bus to the airport and sleep there over night
Head home the next day "
As in, fly back to the UK or drive back home? |

No they live down the country so the safest place is the airport and get the bus back home the next day |

I said to someone recently that I would never go to a concert in Dublin again, be cheaper and less hassle to go to London if the artist was playing there |

Yeah totally agree
Between engery bills and the rest
A proper night out is a small credit union loan! Haha
Cafe back garden so much more value
Fire pit / bbq / bottles of wine / Spotify
Late night hours - as long as you don’t wake up the neighbours
Only thing people have to pay is cab fares.

Agreed, staying local is a way of saving, but the fun is heading off somewhere. God help the GAA fan, being from Kerry like... Trips to Dublin are getting mighty expensive. Never mind the ticket price. Wonder if Sam Maguire is worth much???

By the end of a working week I'm that exhausted I've no energy or will to traipse into my local town and spend a fortune when I don't have too, I'm keeping it that way and my bank balance always cheers me up |

I'm going to sound like a dry shite(what's new there ) after this post.
Thankfully I can walk to my local, so no taxi, as there usually isn't 1 after a certain time of night, of any kind. No chipper open after 11(I think), so no dirty grub for the way home. A pint is around €4.70 to €5.00,depends on what your drinking. Never been big into going to concerts of any kind at any age. Can't be arsed to go to a restaurant to eat. When it's just meself, at the table. Was hoping to go away for weekend's this year alright. Mainly as part of different socials on here, having doubts about them now.
My wages did go up a very small bit. Not seeing it in my bank balance. It's nearly now a case of looking to see if anything is there at all, these day's for me.
Now, even before the lock downs I used to only go out every second weekend anyway's, for most of the year. I'm thinking of going back to staying at home again. Don't drink at home, usually. Don't want to get into that habit.
It's like if money is being taken from my account without me even knowing about it. The cost of living in general is killing me, big time. I'm not feeling or seeing the benefits of working at all. As bad & weird as that sound's to some people om here. |

Not at all, the purpose of the post was to see if there is any light at the end of the tunnell..
With 8 increases in my tracker.. Wages flow in and out, without any real living done.. So yes I emphatically agree... Having lived through the bust of 07/08 with major losses.. I can see things happening again. |

8 increases, that's tuff on anybody. Just on it's own. That's 1 thing/problem I don't have & highly unlikely I'll ever have it. I had nothing to lose back then, just like now aswell. I spent the best part of the last 20 year's, not working, as much as I wanted to work. So took a job, just for the sake of having a job & with the hope of getting a personally better suited job, in the very near future, as starting the job. No luck. |

Ya, something is going to happen again alright. This government don't seen to be arsed about helping people either. Hopefully it wouldn't be as bad as the last time & not as long either. |

Irish Guy I presume you're renting and you could save money moving back home
If you need to then do it but look at other options first
Can you get another person in to help pay the rent
Are extra hours available to work
I think everyone has worked somewhere they didnt really want to in their life but they just had to survive
Keep looking for the better job ...there's lots out there at the moment |

We dont control our interest rates anymore or our currency so the only way to tackle inflation is to increase interest rates.
So its painful for normal people and will continue to be.
Less money to spend on fun activities but no way out of it.
And it's the same all over Europe so we just have to get on with it.
Changing government wont change anything. It will get worse again when the weather gets worse in the winter.
It's going to be painful for a while yet. |

A few years ago my brother and I got into a routine of picking a spot in the UK with cheap flights or Ferry journey, cheap hotel etc. We do a weekend away every month or 6 weeks and go on the tear over there. Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle and Liverpool were the top spots. Nights out in Limerick or Dublin have skyrocketed, even the shitholes in Limerick City are charging manic money for food and drinks. Unfortunately a night out is the most likely option for dipping the wick so I won't be giving them up any time soon! |

Yes, I'm renting, thankfully the rent is next to nothing, compared to what others are paying. Also it's a 1 bedroom house I'm in. So can't get anybody else to help with the rent. If I needed to.
Can't move home, as there's no home base, anymore. Also there's a new family living there now aswell.
No, there's no overtime in the place that I work.
I've no doubt about that at all.
I'm looking alright. As many job's that's out there, I'm not getting my hope's up. As me & the 9 to 5(so to speak) job, haven't got on or worked out in the past, even during the boom. As mad & bad, as that sound's to other's.
I'll plough on anyway's. I don't usually let it get me down either. |
