To me the difference is

Living is when you're happy most of the time in yourself and what you get up to in your life

Existing is going through life keeping everyone else happy but no yourself doing things you don't give a shit about going from day not really caring about anything or anyone..

My take - existing is what you do when only basic requirements/conditions of survival are met.

Living is a more fulfilled way of life.

That is a very good question?? for me living is about being aware and present for as much of life as possible, that includes the good and the bad, existing is being wherever you are but not being fully present, does that make any sense?

Existing is just treading water and staying alive.

Living is trying for experiences and pleasure that exceed just existing

Awareness of choices. Awareness that we can choose to be kind to others. To borrow from Victor Frankel (probably a bit misquoted/misremembered)

"Between a stimulus and a response is a space. In that space lies our ability to choose our response. In our response lies our freedom and our growth. The last of human freedoms is to choose our attitude in any set of circumstances "

To give an example, Frankel wrote that in 1946, after having survived Auchwitz.
