Hey, ok so about an hour ago I was about to book into a hotel in Limerick city. I looked it up on booking.com and The George hotel and The Killmurry Lodge were looking for €140 for the night, Someone callled to the door and I just went back on again and when the page refreshed The George Hotel was fully booked and The Killmurry Lodge was now looking for €288... How the hell is that even allowed??? |

Try using Trivago aswell as you'll get comparative prices for the dates your looking for for the hotels you mentioned.
It's a good baseline sometimes and shows you the what booking.com charge for using their platform rather than directly using the hotel website.
Hotels.ie would be another option  |

Also try just booking a bed, not bed & breakfast. Still get breakfast in the morning, pay the hotel direct. It could leave it cheaper again for you OP.
As I found out meself a few months ago meself. I booked a hotel for what I though was B&B for 2 nights. Actually it turned out to be B only. I was able to get the breakfast in the hotel I was am to pay for the breakfast directly at reception. I saved meself 40%, that way compared if I did it through the website directly. Also you need to think, it's short notice, it's a weekend & there's a game on tomorrow. So some people will be around Limerick tonight. |

It was trivago that sent me to booking.com
Just the difference in prices in 1 hour was just madness in my mind. Worth a shot for €140 but €288 would get you flights and accommodation to Spain for the weekend |

It's a big gamble but I have booked last minute for hotels previously at basic rate, 2 nights before staying and got good prices. A lot of hotels would get bookings but there is always cancellations for whatever reason.
I recently booked Maldron on South Mall in Cork and it was 248 euros for the night and I decided to check again 2 days prior and it was 203 euros so it was a no brainer to cancel the previous booking but only if it allows cancellation up to 24 hours prior which most hotels accommodate.

Trick is...Don't answer the door..book your hotel 1st then answer the door.. simply because whoever was at the door doesn't give a tuppenny fuck about You and your hotel...sad but true . |

Supply and demand...people can obviously still afford it, even in a cost of living crisis...unfortunately there's never enough to actually boycott what is just downright wrong. |

Same for the airline industry, its unbelievable!
I went to a Heineken Cup semi final in France a few years ago and the flights were 592 euro return on the day.
If I had travelled the day before it would have been 279 euros, however I would have had to get a hotel and at the time because it was heineken Cup semi final the cheapest hotel for 1 night stay was... Drumroll..... 499 euros per night.
It's absolutely scandalous that this type of extortion is allowed. |

I used to work in finance in the hotel industry it's all about getting the best possible room rate for them. I went to a interview recently and asked the interviewer how long they are going to be charging higher prices. His response was as long as people are willing to pay they'll keep charging. |

"It's insane. Going to Dublin Friday and Saturday night. €500 to €650+ for two nights, crazy money. Got an apartment room city centre for €300. Put you off going if it keeps increasing like this."
Dublin is so far beyond affordable for anything these days, even the bad snow grip we had in March a few years back people must have been charging a tenner for a loaf of brennans  |
