So anybody watching the Katie Taylor fight?
What's people's thoughts on it & Katie herself, as a roll model.
Personally can't say anything about the fight, as I don't know how it'll go, apart from I hope she wins.
I think she's a good roll model for girls in the sport mainly. I'm sure it's rolling off on boy's aswell.  |

They have no knock out power its painfully bad boxing, womens boxing has a long long way to go before it can in any way compete with men's, give me 2 men duking it out any day over 2 women with no power, this fight will go the full 8 rounds because neither boxer has the power to ko each other, boring predictable fights "

Shes class and an inspiration really. Shes got this way about her. None of the bs bragging etc that you see often. She does it for the love of the sport and feck knows shes put in a lot of blood sweat and tears to get what shes achieved and it shouldnt be minimised in any way |

So I'm just home from the fight
It was obvious that she didn't do enough to beat Cameron but it was close
The rematch will be organised within weeks as they have a contract
She's a fantastic role model for anyone and the amount of young kids there was incredible to see
McGregor is a horrible bloke as is all his posse ....never considered him a role model ever

Always the danger in Boxing, you get to fight on home soil but the result doesn't go your way,in boxing there's no place to hide.. You step into a ring.. personally l would have liked her to retire but who am l..she obviously feels ok to fight etc so she does but what l'd hate to see is any boxer outstay their welcome..male or female... .it only takes one punch ..she owes nobody nothing...she is a truly brilliant and humble person |

Also then one mens fight I seen with Cully in it last night showed me how bad he was and he is a man. Also aren't you contradicting yourself? As think to leave a ring bloody means the person giving you them punches must have some power to them

There's no getting away from the fact that most womens sport is different to mens sport but it's not an issue for most people
I don't understand why you'd only be entertained at a boxing match if someone is carried out bloodied and beaten to a pulp ...that's not for me
I'd prefer to see a good fight with no one hurt and everyone going home to their loved ones

Unfortunately!! Promoters are the only winners in this. Katy is awesome but should not have moved up a weight just to have a homecoming fight in Dublin. Something stinks in relation to Serrano pulling out of the initial scheduled fight. I hope Katy retires but she will probably have to do the rematch |

Your comment that boxing is a man's sport must be one of the most stupid gombeenman comments iv seen on fab. As if every male boxing match is an epic or something and one man is always knocked out. Iv seen more sh*t males fights than good ones. Iv seen guys in the ring who definitely don't belong there who wouldn't knock out you even.
I assume they are still fighting 2 minute rounds which in itself restricts one woman chances of a stoppage as she has less time to wear opponent down. Saw a man yesterday score a point from 50 yards. A girl couldn't do that so it must be a man's game. Back into the kitchen ladies with ye

She got badly beaten last night and should have retired after the serrano fight when her face was left black and blue, she hasn't a snowballs chance in hell of beating her in the rematch, seems to be holding onto past glory and she's not letting go it's time to walk away |

It is a man's sport always was.. Ladies boxing is relatively new, it's not that long ago it was illegal altogether, most people watch boxing for knockouts for moments of power, ladies boxing is 10 rounds slobbering over 1 another it's a very poor standard |

What a bizarre thing to say, KT would whip the arse off most fellas in terms of technique, speed and fight brain. Power means nothing if you don't have the rest. Up against a trained male fighter she would struggle but you're comparing apples and oranges here. She is a quality fighter, the fight last night was decent. |

The problem with a few people on here is that they are seeing men's and women's boxing as two versions of the same sport, but it's the same as any other sport where men and women compete, the physical differences in the participants are so big that they are essentially different sports altogether and over time the rules may start to change to account for this. You might as well say "Katie is a treat technical boxer, but she's shite at scrummaging"
In sports where physicality counts, people continuing to compare women to men are doing gifted and committed athletes a disservice.
And making themselves sound like misogynistic arseholes at the same time. |

Katie Taylor is certainly Irelands most successful ever Irish boxer and individual plying her trade internationally. To those who begrudge woman's boxing above, I am surprised.
Boxing is organized into different weight categories for reasons of fairness, safety, equality, and sporting integrity.
Katie Taylor has fought the best of what's before her over many years now and this is the first time since her amateur days that she has lost. She was close, but just put powered by a stronger opponent from a heavier weight category.
I wouldn't bet against her on the rematch.
Go Katie go.
Irelands best sports achiever by a country mile. Even the late great Ali lost some fights.
What all this has to do with this site is beyond me. But it's it definitely marks as unique compared to the Spanish forum etc..

I enjoy boxing, i have fought at an amateur level and most men would beat the hell out of even Katie, but that's not the point. The point Op is trying to make , i think, is that compared to mens boxing, the highest level of women's boxing is no where near the level of men's boxing and pretty boring. The art of boxing isn't knocking people out its avoiding getting knocked out.
It's great that people are so passionate about this but answer realistically have any of you watched a womans boxing fight that wasn't big time like Katie. But to be hit that amount of Times and not go down suggests two things, no power or super chin, I'll go with no power.
I didn't watch the fight and i won't watch the rematch.
She is a great role model for young kids, particularly girls, HWPO, but as for entertaining boxing , nah , not good |

That was a very silly thing for her marketing/management team to do for her first big fight back in Ireland!
Very few fighters do that successfully.

The biggest problem in women's boxing is the 2 minute rounds. By the time any of them get a bit of momentum the bell is ringing to end the round. It happened a couple of times on Saturday night. 7 or 8 rounds of 3 minutes would lead to better bouts and fewer fights having to go to a decision. |
