Paddy has a personality that is suited to the chat show genre, but I think the format has run its course, and the venerable Late Late Show should have been deleted from RTE's staid and predictable schedule, at least for one full season.
Gabriel Mary Byrne, though not everyone's cup of tea, was a master at his art and both the presenter and producer which he used to good effect for decades.
Paddy will be restricted to presenting only.
I won't be enticed to watch the 23/24 season. |

It's good that Paddy got it alright. No Gabriel Mary Byrne wasn't everybody's cup of tea alright, that's true. At least give Paddy a chance to put his mark on it before stop watching it. |

The best of luck to him in his new endeavour, he will certainly have more charisma and appeal than plank Tubridy but I think that show has run it's course now and should be retired, it's the longest running chat show on tv in the world so that tells you how much Rte are flogging a dead horse, I still won't watch it regardless of who presents it, there are so many other platforms available for our entertainment, it's not like years ago when all we has was Rte to watch now it's Netflix and a myriad of other services to steal our attention |

"Rte need to keep it as they need the advertising revenue it generates. Recently heard its 10 grand for a 30 second advert"
I would suggest your figure of 10k is a gross underestimate. |

Having lived in various countries and watch countless 'chat' shows, the Late Late Show handles all topics, soft and hard, with an effortless manner. Ryan Tubridy will be a tough act for Kielty to follow though. |

11900 for an advert this month. 86000 during the toy show |

That's why the show is an agonising 2+ hours long with several ad breaks. Should be shortened to an hour. That's still enough to promote young talents, just cut out the GAA interviews, the whingers and pseudo celebrities.
It's great news that RTE chose Paddy and not one of their home baked ones (ie Brendan O'Connor, he shouldn't be in public air at all). Anyhow I will dip in when Paddy presents it however I fear as long as they don't give the format an overhaul too it's still not watchable. |

I seem to remember him presenting a chat show previously and he did ok
The big chatter now is that he's staying living in london, flying in on Thursday each week and then flying home on saturday
Some people are complaining that he won't get a feel for Ireland and whats going on in the country unless he's living here |

I like Kielty, I think he will be better than Tubridy as his politics wont effect his views or those who appear on the show. He might encourage some interesting guests. Unlike Tubridys play it safe, RTE canteen.
If Kielty achieves one thing, hopefully, it will be the removal of every Z list Dublin "celeb" from the guest list! |

I think this is the start of the end for the late late show. I agree with the OP that the shoe has run its course and tubs got out because the viewer numbers were dropping and he didn't want to be in the driving seat when it goes down the swanning. Patrick will probably do an OK job but I don't think he's gonna make miracles happen to bring much needed life and excitement back into the show. There's only so much cheese ppl can deal with and "there's one for everyone in the audience" is utter cringe now and the guest lists have only gotten worse over the years |

I think it depends on how you want thé programme to be
It can be too inward looking sometimes . As long as he does his homework maybe not hearing about some non event in the midlands is ok (there are plenty of alternative forums for that )
I don’t like him and I wont watch but I think Ireland deserves a better chat show than what Tubs gave us |
