During his long showbiz career, Barry Humphries had a number of alter egos that included the d*unken diplomat, Les, and more famously, Edna.
But beside his phony crass facades, he was a cultured and erudite individual who was a delight to have at any private dinner party: witty, knowledgeable, polite, charming and sadly missed by a lot of friends and fans alike.
May he rest in peace.

There was an exceptionally lengthy obituary for John Barry Humphries in today's London Times and the many difficulties he faced during his life esp. his many attempts to become an international star despite a really serious addiction to alcohol and antique book collecting.
