Just letting you know of a very convincing scam I got today.
Guy called from Revolut saying that there was a suspicious transaction from hotelbooking.com for €179.99 on my card. Read out card number asked if I booked it. I said absolutely not. Okay he said they would deny the charge and block my card. Then he said that they would send a new card in 3-4 days and told me my house name. Then asked me to verify Revolut balance but I wasn't able to, so told him last transaction, which he confirmed on his screen. Asked me if I'd received anything suspicious recently and I mentioned PayPal dodgy emails for Pixel phone and that I'd forwarded them to phishing@paypal.com and he said phone and laptop PayPal scams are rife at the moment.
Then he said he knows I usually transfer money to Revolut through main bank and to confirm that. I said Bank of Ireland and he said yes BOI. He explained how they work with BOI and PTSB to counter fraud and would need my 16 digit card number. I presumed he'd made a mistake and gave him the last 4 digits. He said no, he needed the 16 digits. I said no I'm not giving you that. He said I need them to link the fraud investigation. I said no. He asked why. I said that's a security risk. He hung up immediately!
Very convincing call.
I work in IT and this is only a snippet of the full conversation, which was very convincing.
