Scrap the Late Late Show format

Dee Forbes, the DG of RTE should take the belated decision to scrap The Late Late Show format that has puportedly been the jewel in the crown for over 60 years; but it has lost its lustre very significantly over the last decade or more, especially under Ryan Tubridy's leadership.
The broadcasting landscape has changed, as has public taste and a shake-up is needed across the board in RTE; but what to replace it with?
RTE Radio 1 is also tired, boring and predictable with the same format and voices on airad infinitum.
Fundamentally RTE as a corporate entity is in a fix: advertising revenue is falling and the payment of an annual licence fee is an outdated financial model in a competitive, free-market environment.
Crucially is the inane Ray D'Arcy really good value for money?
I am glad to see the back of Ryan Tubridy because he is Boring and insincere! |

Yes, RTE ad revenue has fallen
RTÉ reports net surplus of €2.4m for 2021 as commercial revenue recovers

I identify culturally with RTE more than any other tv or radio channel; it is particularly disappointing how it has deteriorated since its heyday when Gay Byrne, Marian Finucane and Gerry Ryan were really worth listening to daily; regrettably Joe Duffy has also lost his mojo.
I rarely if ever listen to the BBC, as I don't relate to it, culturally

A plank of wood has more charisma than Tubridy, it's clear to me he is only in that position because he fits a certain D4 narrative RTÉ are forcing upon us, interesting some names being thrown into the mix lottie Ryan, Bertie ahearn, Miriam O'Callaghan and a few others, and we thought we suffered with Tubridy oh it gets way worse anyway I won't be rushing back to watch it, I have better things to be doing on a Friday night |

Do you ever listen to Newstalk "
I am down in Dublin very frequently and Newstalk is very good and increasingly my GOTO station. |

Do you watch it with the mammy every now and then |

The strength of the signal in NI is very poor; the Roberts walkman-style radio I have (that is no longer made but is of top quality) has great difficulty in receiving Newstalk. Cooley Mountains Slieve Foy blocks the FM signal very effectively.
RTE Radio 1 is not available in the Mournes and is only available on LW 252, that my radio is capable of receiving. |

You mean it's scandalous what they charge for the TV licence - plenty of people who don't pay it (me included, and I genuinely don't own a TV) |

Yes the GAA sold out, as did the premier league in UK, the difference being that the Premier league went to sky and other big money organisations and players benefitted financially, and you can argue, benefitted too much.... the GAA sold out, for whom, or whose back pocket??
I actually liked Tubs, having suffered Gay Byrne delicately discussing condoms and how to put them on... to Pat "watch the paint dry" kenny, just being a bore.... I think Tubs has to deal with "repeat" guests due to the fact that there is no budget to attract huge names such as those on Graham Norton.... if nothing else, Tubs has been the face of recent toy shows that have raised considerable funds for various organisations... I agree that maybe some changes need to be introduced, which might even lead to the end of the show, but can you imagine Marian or Ray or even Joe presenting it???? No way |

Every time they called previously he was at home, but anyway door bell rang
I answered and well let’s just say we pay it now ffs ended up in court
But we had to be caught someday well that’s what I tell him anyway |

And I add. I might be the only person on Fab who has referenced the TV licence on their profile. What a lovely thing it is
Now if someone has an opinion about white bread and starts a thread I might set the cat on them too. Over to you Bog |

The late late show is way too long. It might have been appropriate in Gay Byrne's time, but nobody is into 2 hours of suffering and boredom anymore.
I can't and don't watch RTE at all, it's just gruesome, same faces, same topics and always in line with FFG. It's like groundhog day everyday. |

I don’t watch rte or thrashy tv3 at all. Like many others.
RTE should be quashed , same old faces, friends and relatives getting a leg up , it’s a real showcase of broadcasting narcissism. It’s an abhorrent “station” and institution and the chronies who run it. |

The names in the pot are:
Miriam O'Callaghan
Claire Byrne
Brendan O'Connor
Sarah McInerney
Miriam is the frontrunner, but she is ubiquitous on RTE, or has been.
A new fresher face and format would be welcomed.

Full disclosure, Tubs is a friend of mine
I think he's a great light entertainer.
I can agree that it doesn't have the gravitas of Gay's helmanship.
But with so many news channels, difficult to find the right niche that has wide appeal |

Now that Miriam O'C has dropped out I suspect that Brendan will get the gig.
Could you envisage if Brendan (Mrs Brown) was to be offered it; nightmare!
I can't stand him; totally phony AH! |
