Is it awkward if you meet someone from your blocked list at a social meet.

How should you react?

See, this is why I have avoided big events.... nightmare scenario, social claustrophobia.

Can't avoid the undesirables the way I can by navigating away from them on here

Well if the chatting goes well and they seem nice, perhaps you could reconsider you blockage.

Make a really big deal about it and demand to why they blocked me or make a really big deal about and then I'll proceed to give them a detail explanation as to why I blocked them.

Seems the most mature way to deal with the situation imo.

This! Some people are just rubbish at communicating online but are lovely face to face.

Treat it like a normal pub scenario

There's always a knobend somewhere

So avoid

This I've been to one or two socials and just avoided the blocked person

Responsible organisers will always make sure that anyone who is known for "undesirable" behaviour won't be able to attend their event.

Also responsible organisers do listen to their guests and if someone has mistreated one of their guests and it gets reported to the organiser - they will not invite the offendee.

We have attended events where someone was on our block list for one reason or another and have never had an issue - there's always plenty of space and people to interact with, without having to bump into anyone you don't want to have a conversation or any other contact with.

I think;

For a blockee, (blocked by you)

Curt hello and a speedy retreat.

For a blocker, (they blocked you),

Full on charm offensive making them feel they have made a big mistake and now trying desperately to undo the damage.

Never had that happen personally, but I don't know...

If the chat is good and you genuinely have a connection - depending on what you blocked them for - you can either address the issue or just laugh it off.

Depending on the reason why the block happened - if its something serious and you most definitely stand by your block, just make polite excuse and move on.

If it was nothing serious i.e. you blocked a profile because they didn't reply quickly enough - then I don't see an issue with continuing contact.

Jaysus... I'd love to be in a room with everyone who has me blocked on this! I'd genuinely just try and make light of it and knock some craic of the whole thing (and have a swift exit plan in the event of awkwardness...)

It depends on what the block is for.

I block some people because their status updates annoy me and clog up my feed, I'm sure they are grand people like.

If I had someone blocked for a specific reason, one that would mean I'd not want to socialise with them off of fab I'd have no problem cutting the conversation short.

For every person that is just bad at communicating online but lovely in person there is someone who is lovely face to face but let's their true nasty self out when they are safe behind a computer screen

Not all of us are lucky enough to be inundated with messages and meet invites.

Surely the whole purpose of the site is for people to search for like-minded people who they can make contact with.

Otherwise why would there be a search button.

But people also make people out too be what their not just so others are influenced by someone else’s opinion

Without all the big words trying too make them feel like I’m so educated it’s not funny

And I have....

Maybe I give people more reason, not deliberately, to block me.

I guess we all have different experiences in our interactions with the site.

somewhere

There's people on the forums that have me blocked but we share a conversation every now and then in a thread

Socials are normally so big that I'd imagine it would be hard to go looking for them to chat to anyway

Sure if you end up saying hello being polite if you're introduced then no harm for small talk for a minute or two and off again

I'd not be arsed. Life's too short to give pieces of me to folk I can't abide.

Tbh my block list is so long it's way way past the limit of what's listed on the tab. I have lots of different reasons for blocking. Filtering for not wanting to meet or not liking their profile or posts, lots of reasons.

I don't t remember the why for the majority but if they're there it's not for no reason

If I was to worry about bumping in to people who have blocked me I'd never go to any social.

I don't fall for the yarn that some people are better face to face because a 5 min chat at a social tells me far less than the more consistent shitstirring face they present on the forums or in private messages.

Happened to me. Chatting to a girl at an event for ages, all going well, try to add her as a friend but can't find the profile. Check spelling, all good. Only later on realise she was on my blacklist.

I didn't meet a blockee but I did run into someone I'd said no to. We were both able to have a laugh about it. I'll admit when I make a mistake...turned out to be a very good night indeed!
