the wonderful phenomenon of men(that has been my experience, but open to the idea of women doing it too)blocking you, after you disagree with them?
So, for context, this person messaged me and was engaging with me. This person was passing commentary on those on fab, while also complimenting me for being different, etc., I merely pointed out that I felt that they were being harsh and I didn't agree with certain views they have. They continued on and I engaged in a back & forth - always respectful on both sides, to be fair, which isn't always the case. Anyway, they sent a final message, laying out more points, but I could tell that they were somewhat annoyed by the points I had made, in terms of projection, etc., So, I typed a brief, final reply to theirs, only to realise that they had blocked me.
This is far from my first encounter of this. Thankfully, this one was not an abusive one, which I have experienced, too. I am both amused and surprised by just how many people(in my case, I have only had this experience with men) simply cannot engage in a conversation, where they are not agreed with. It is important not to only engage with those who hold similar views with; I am always open to learning and my beliefs & opinions are constantly evolving.
Anyway, just a little bemused commentary on something I don't think is necessary. |

My experience is the flip side of this.
I don't send messages and haven't sent a first contact message in 3 years so every conversation since has been initiated by women and couples.
The vast majority are grand but there have been a few who just get in touch to have a rant about others, pass on a Chinese whisper about someone I've never heard of or spoken to or who expect a completely different response from me.
If I say I've no idea who they're talking about or ask why they thought I'd be even slightly interested they are often offended.
If I don't blow smoke up their backside from the off they have blocked me but apparently it's my loss if other threads are anything to go by.
Not my fault if they haven't been paying attention. |

Plenty of people block if they don't agree with what you say on here. If I see I'm blocked I just counter block back.It isn't a big deal and yes I have been blocked by both men and women.
As for when actually messaging someone I don't remember ever blocking anyone when we have been chatting just because we disagreed,it has stopped some chats though that has been going well up to the point on the rare occasion. But that's fine as well because it just means we aren't going to get on if someone can't take anyone disagreeing with them over something. You won't always agree with someone and I think if you can disagree without throwing a strop then it's healthier than someone who just agrees for the sake of it but isn't genuinely being themselves.
Someone blocking me though doesn't bother me on here. It's a tool people use to not interact with people they don't like or want to meet. I use it myself at times so I'd be a hypocrite to give out about those that use it to suit their way of using the site. |

"They don't want to engage any further with you.
I honestly never understand peoples confusion at being blocked regardless of when, where, how or why."
This. And I've no qualms about blocking those whose views are diametrically opposed to mine. |

I've a thing about people talking negatively about other people, I just don't like it so I'd block them but I am sure I have been blocked by people and my block list keeps growing its nothing personal jusg either too close for comfort or on different ends of the spectrum of views in life |

All good points and I agree.
However, to be clear, I am not bothered by this person blocking me. It was more a commentary on this phenomenon, when somebody doesn't agree. And, I found it particularly funny, as they supposedly made contact, because they liked that I had my own mind. |

I would imagine that to be the case. As to being confused, I am not. I just find it lacks maturity, although I would prefer that over ranting, etc., |

I mean you mentioned surprised and bemusement. I took a leap to confusion |

Meh. I wouldn't care at all. If they don't want to talk to you or hear from you then what's the harm in being blocked by them? I occasionally come across people who have blocked me and it really doesn't bother me, apart from a brief moment of wondering why as I've never really fallen out with anyone here, or at least not that I'm aware of. |

This. And I've no qualms about blocking those whose views are diametrically opposed to mine. "
And, that is your prerogative.
For my part, I would have no hesitation in blocking somebody, if they expressed views that are xeno/homo/transphobic, or the like. However, I don't feel it necessary to block any and every person who politely disagrees with me. I have no desire to live in an echo chamber. |

Nor do I, but I've enough interactions to be dealing with irl to be bothered with it here |

Yes, I quite dislike this, too. I didn't feel the need to block, as it was a respectful back & forth. My block list is definitely used more than my first time around, but usually towards the more persistent folk, or the abusive ones. |

I did, indeed, but that was at how many people act this way, when I politely disagree with them. |

Oh, I don't mind actually being blocked. It was more a commentary on the act of doing so, because I simply didn't agree with their views re. people on here.
Funnily enough, I have come across somebody who has me blocked. I have no idea why, but it doesn't bother me. |
