Interested to hear opinions on spirits. Do you believe such exists or not. Have you had experience or interaction with spirits. Or is the end really the end....

I believe in spirits, yes.

Grew up in a house where I often felt an other-worldly presence. And quite a few family members (mother, sisters, brother in law, nieces and nephew) will speak of experiences with odd things happening.

I've also spent time in a neighbouring property owned by a different family member where I definitely never felt comfortable sleeping with the lights off Mrs

I think you can get a sense of horrific events from the old buildings where they took place.

I visited world war sites and the colluseum and was physically affected by it to the point I had to leave one and couldn't enter the other.

When buying a house there were some older ones I couldn't wait to get out of.

I've wondered if there is a scientific explanation for it.

We know that energy transfers and changes.... light to sound to heat etc... and the physical in nature around us absorbs these things.

No reason it wouldn't also absorb the sound energy of screams etc during horrific events. But it's too fanciful and untested to ever know.

Just a puzzle given my experiences but no, not a believer in ghosts walking about as such.

I've never seen or felt one but my mum and her brothers had a joint experience many years ago that they had no explanation other than it was spiritual. They maintained that until they all passed.

I've lost many close family members over the years including 2 in the last 8 weeks but I've never had a spiritual moment that I'm aware of.

I know lots of people who have visited mediums but I've always been sceptical and it's not something I would ever consider.

I had no belief in them absolutely no belief untill I saw a woman whom I knew very well and had no clue that she was being tormented by them.... She was prayed over by a man of God and wow!!! I was told by my friends who were there that they saw the spirits come out of her ... Now I wasn't present for that part... I missed it ...

Married to a holistic therapist who has done Medium courses also and she uses it in her treatment of clients.

Personally I don't have much time for it but some of the stories are not possible without the connection being real. She can tell total strangers reasons for pain in certain parts and what it relates to and which dead relatives are saying why and people seem to get a lot of relief, many often completely losing the issue they came for.

I should say that, when she tells me of these experiences, she never reveals the clients name or anything that might allow me identify them.

I'm still not a believer but each to their own and whatever works for you

Wide variety of thoughts and opinions here. Some may find comfort, others scared and people who don't think anything of it.

For my own experience I've had too many coincidences happen with the spirit world to not believe. I like to take solace that those that are loved and gone are close by..

People who don't believe in ghosts never see ghosts. The human mind is a very convincing thing though and can make people believe they've seen it felt something that just isn't there.

Infrasound is also something that can have a huge effect on the human mind.

I was installing equipment in the Crown Bar in Belfast 30 years ago and the assistant manager was helping me carry it upstairs.

Half way up he screamed, dropped his end of the equipment and ran off. I hadn't a clue what was going on and thought he was taking the piss.

The manager appeared and helped me the rest of the way and we both went looking for the other guy.

He was cowering in the toilets shaking like a leaf.

He swore that a woman in white had walked out of the wall on one side of the stairs, passed between us and carried on through the opposite wall. I had seen nothing at all.

The manager confirmed he wasn't the first to see this woman and that over the years staff and customers had reported seeing her numerous times.

Now that I think of it though, when I was 8 or 9 I wrote a story for homework about going to my cousin's house next door one evening to leave something in and met my granny at the gate. She told me to hurry home as it was going to rain.

Nothing unusual except she died two years before I was born.

I don't remember that actually happening but I remember the teacher asking my parents about it because something similar had happened to her and it gave her chills.

I had to go into hospital several years ago for a serious operation and my neice bought me a guardian angel to take with me.

A few years ago, I was driving home from work one bright evening. A large delivery van was parked just before a bad corner. Cars were overtaking it and just before my turn to overtake, I swear I heard my neices voice telling me to stop which I did. A big lorry came round the corner seconds later!!!!

My neice had been killed by a d*unken driver just around the same corner a few years before that. She was my Guardian Angel that day.

I believe there may be spirits but am happy to let them be and would never mock them or dabble in contacting them.

Spirits, Genius Loci, or whatever you want to call it. Definitely.

I believe in power of energy past, present, which doesn't disappear into thin air, but it's absorbed by place, object, building and so on.

Had brought a piece of 'metal' into the house. Was getting headaches, couldn't sleep, felt like shoite since I brought it in, so let my friend to do 'energy cleansing' on it. Since that was done, no issues, mind you, she said there was a baggage on that piece of steel, so...

But, do I believe in ghosts - Casper style? No.

From the other hand, some people believe in Jesus Christ and they think it's perfectly sane

So there, my take on it

It's impossible to go into Auschwitz without having some knowledge of the evil that was perpetrated though, in which case the feelings of unease are most likely going to be attributed to something otherworldly.

The reality is that the unease more likely stems from the knowledge that humans do unspeakable things to other humans and you are now standing in a place where horror, terror and brutality were prevalent at one time, in the not very distant past.

Exactly how I see it, it's more about our suggestibility than any malevolent energy absorbed by inanimate objects. Other people and their actions instill fear, as well they might.

That would be trivial to test. Take "psychics" to a number of houses, 1 where something really bad happened, and other where it didn't. Get them to identify the evil house.

There are a number of cash prizes including the famous one by James Rando for 1m dollars.

Nobody has yet been able to reliably prove these "feelings" actually exist. If they did then they would be rich. The power of suggestion is a wonderful thing.

Its the top of my list of places to visit,I'm afraid to visit in one sense as I had distant family that were murdered so it will disturb me but hopefully this year or next year I finally get there

Not spirit related but the most moving programme I've ever seen was when the BBC took a man from Belfast back to Auschwitz for the first time since he helped liberate it.

He was very emotional and even more so when they met a French TV crew who were doing exactly the same with a former prisoner.

It was the first time the French man had an opportunity to thank any of his liberators.

The following is a true story...

In 1983, my closest friend and I were walking the four miles home from the nearest town to our own homes on the side of the mountain. It was a dark Friday night As we were crossing a bridge we stopped to look into the river. We agreed that it would be the sort of place you'd expect to hear ghost stories about as the river was covered over by trees, making it much darker than the area around it.

We decided that the following night when we were in town again we'd tell people we had seen something and see how it would go down.

The following night we were hitching a lift into town and were picked up by an ould lad who had lived in the general area all his life but he wasn't someone we knew very well, and he wouldn't really have known who we were either. We coyly mentioned the apparition the previous night and he made no real comment on it. We decided to forget about our plan and went about our night.

About a month later I was cycling past the bridge when I noticed a rosary beads sitting on the wall. Some time after that there was a flower there.

Fast forward on about 35 years and I'm living in Dublin for as long as I can remember. One weekend I'm visiting home and I decided to wander into the town for a couple of pints. I head off walking and get a lift from the son of a lad that was in school with me. As we cross the bridge he blessed himself. I asked what that read about and he tells me of the ghostly figure that's often seen up along the river, beneath the trees.

The story has now developed and apparently she was killed there as she met her lover by Hessians who were chasing and harassing the French led rebels of 1798 who had passed through the area before being routed a few miles away, just across the Longford/Leitrim border.

It's a bizarre situation and there's only two of us who know the truth. I've told people but they won't believe me. It just shows how easily people will believe shite if there even a grain of truth in it somewhere.

Both totally open to the idea of an afterlife but what form it takes is anyones guess.

If spirits do exist then they wouldn't be harmful and any fear is unfounded.

We have more to fear from the living than the dead.

I've been to auschwitz and other camps, not a morbid fascination, work related.

So eerie and chilling it can't be explained.

But in a strange way I'd recommend it to anyone, as every problem you think you might have pales into insignificance afterwards.

Dunno if I believe in spirits as such, but I do believe in loved one's watching over us,etc.

Maybe it's just something to take comfort in.

Went to a few reiki practitioners recently and they told me stuff about deceased relatives they had no way off ever knowing, and not general stuff either that you could guess easily, very specific stuff.

My Ex and I lived in an old house, built in the 1770s, which was a landlord’s agent’s house, There were many stories regarding the brutality of its owners until the 1890s.

Some of the stories related to the Rent Window, first night conjugal rights and family betrayal.

I sometimes got a feeling that passed by and was watching, a spirit maybe !!

Even though I had read about it, the reality of hearing the tour guide talk about the things that happened as we walked around it was actually chilling. It is inconceivable the things that human beings did to other human beings.......so very sad.

Strangest feeling there.

Great thread but now I'm quivering in bed scared.

I haven't seen a spirit but just before my mum died she could see her mum and was talking to her.It was very emotional to watch but it left me the feeling that past family come to you in your final hrs and it was beautiful xxxBer

Sorry I’m late to this but I 100% do beleave in spirits. I used to work in a large building with a viewing platform over the factory floor, often as you were Turing your head you would see a large black shadow up there but when you looked it was gone. I always chalked it up to my imagination until a coworker saw me do a double take and said “you can see it to”.

There was also vending machines in the factory with heavy metal openings (old date heavy ones) I mind one night I stoped beside the machines to check my phone and the opening of them started opening and closing by its self about 5/6 times.

Another is there was ice cold parts of the building, I mean the building would be warm and the next thing a freezing cold spot would develop and the hairs on your neck would stand also I heard whistling when no one was around.

Even typing this now my hairs are standing and I’m getting shivers down my spine

Never believed in them myself, but don't bother people who do. Each to their own, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.
