Hill Street Blues or something like that name used to be a great bar n smokes place. Not sure if still same. Some pancake place in a little square across from the Rijksmuseum also was great craic. There's the obvious places and I think it was something called Banana Bar where I got a scar I still have, a bit like Harry Potter, from a vibrator fired at me from the vagina of a performer!
Great city and do try the Heineken. Muck here at 4.3% but at it's proper 5% strength there and very fresh, it's much nicer. If you can find the bar it was first served in, just off the main square, it's wonderful and the sausage and mash thing they do is gorgeous and is something that may entice you to practice with before eating
