"So we cannot buy vegetables or afford the energy cost of cooking them.
Anyone for raw meat and no veg...
I'll chew on your arse "
Now that's an interesting menu choice.
But nice buns are always tasty.... |

Who knows there might even be some cream to go with the strawberries.

"Alleged shortage of supply of fruit and vegetables is the ideal excuse for a massive increase in prices in the shops."
Any shop would prefer to have stock on it's shelves. And it's not an alleged shortage.
I'm sure we can all manage without out of season fruit and veg for a few weeks

What we will find is that prices of fruit and veg will increase rapidly, and will be very slow to come down to more realistic levels; the real rate of inflation is much higher than the general figure which is repotted. |

May not be as bad as you imagine, the nutritional value of summer fruits sold out of season, honestly you're much better off buying frozen berries, they're much cheaper and have a nutritional value that rivals even fresh. Eat more seasonal, local fruit and veg. |

The biggest impact on worldwide carbon footprint is to only eat fruit and veg that are in season where you live. "
This dude gets it, plus your help local farmers and producers, better neutritonal value, less impact of the environment. Disposable culture, but we can't replace or Home |

"Haven't noticed this. Anyone care to explain whats going on and why?"
Bad weather in southern Europe and North Africa has affected availability.
Produce from indoor growers in the UK and The Netherlands has been cut back as high electricity prices have caused them to reduce production. |

Tescos and other supermarket chains are restricting the amount of tomatoes and other fruit and veg that any customer can buy because of supply issues as a result of bad weather. |

one of very few veggies I can't eat.
I've still curly kale, red and white cabbage from my garden. Latter makes a good coleslaw to go with the toast. |

I would like to see what benefit would anyone have from bulk buying fresh produce.
Like it's gonna spoil pretty quickly anyway...
Reminds me of 2020 when everyone decided to bulk buy bananas then realise bananas aren't that exciting and it's a shame to put extra in a bin so they made banana bread.... then needed so much toilet paper after - all shops ran out of it within a week
(That's me trying to be funny)

This happens almost every year tbf just people seem to have taken more notice of it this year, lots of stores get stock from Spain so when Spain get bad weather between Feb & april, harvesting is down as fields can't be got at so then stock levels are down as companies try spread out what they can get between all their stores |

"Grow your own. Tastes superior, no chemicals and its a lifeskill which with the way the world is going, will be very valuable yet I suspect"
My ex once decided to grow his own produce.
Spent over £160 in gardening supplies, seeds, seedlings, wee greenhouse, plant food, compost, pretty much everything you need.
Out of all that effort and full summers growing he proudly harvested two cherry tomatoes and one strawberry.
Not everyone has green fingers

Are you saying that farmers don't use any tools, plant food/compost, green houses or seeds and just live in tune with nature and peppers and cucumbers just grow on their own mid December?

Nope - but they know how soil works and use the right tools.
Not all farmers are using chemicals/ artificial fertiliser
Plough and tractor is no use if your not in tune with the ground |

1. Please expand on your comment about "plastic nonsense" - what exactly is so plastic about gardening tools, seeds, compost and soil?
2. I wasn't talking about artificial fertiliser. There's plenty of organic ones.
God, you can even fertilise soil with your own poop if you like.
Some people don't have green fingers and can't grow any plants. It's just not in them.
No need to come here all superior and all mighty and talk about how someone is not in tune enough with nature for it.
I could dance around a bonfire naked and sing songs to the plant gods three times a day to get in tune with soil - my dead tomatoes won't care |

And I very simply shared a story about how not everyone has green fingers.
Then you started patronising me about some plastic, chemicals and being not in tune enough with nature... "shrug"

The core problems with fruit and veg growing are that it has become so energy intensive, both in production and transport to markets, that expect products to be available out of season.
Personally, I think that produce coming to Europe from South America and Southern Africa is crazy, and unsustainable.
Home grown, seasonal fruit and veg is best in the long term for us and Earth
Apples coming from NZ is bonkers when apples grown locally, such as the variety, Ashmead's Kernel is better than any import; and it lasts for months in cool storage facilities that do not need to be intensively refrigerated.
Brogdale is a fantastic and underutilised resource down in Kent. Thousands of varieties of apple, pear, plum, nut, quince and gage waiting to be utilised. |

"Shortage of cucumbers thank fook great to see this low budget dildo be retired to the compost heap lol less eye damaging pics to view from now on "
Put a condom on it for dildo use and when removed the cucumber is perfectly ok to use afterwards in a sald. Sustainable, green, no plastics or batteries, and if locally grown no air miles.
