Just listening to Newstalk and Simon Harris is on there. He's just announced new stiffer sentences for assault and that stalking is to become a standalone crime. It's about time that happened. He actually sounds like he knows what he's talking about, for once.

There are going to be a fair few guys on here will need to exercise their block button if a message is ignored or they could risk being accused of stalking.

Legislation is already in for revenge porn, people need to report it more. The shame needs to be removed from reporting it. Just like a long time people didn't report domestic violence.

Actually, he said that domestic violence is the main reason for doubling the max assault sentence to 10yrs.

They can double and tremble sentences allcthey want. It's not going to matter because it comes down to one single issue.

There is not enough space in the prisons as it is and the state will not invest in building a new ones.

People are shocked with the reductions in sentences, and it's primarily because of the amount of space that is actually available

Do you believe that it is only men who stalk on here because nothing could be farther from the truth .

And it's good that laws are coming into force to help with issues like this. It's been a long time coming I don't know how much of a deterrent it will be but hopefully it will help for those who find themselves in that position as it's creepy as fuck when someone is stalking you I had one many years ago and no matter how many times I told him to leave me alone he wouldn't.He kept telling me he was a nice guy and why wouldn't I date him. Nice guys don't ring in the middle of the night with silent calls, nor do they ring if they see you out with someone else wanting to know who they are and why are you with them,or leave flowers at the door of your house in the middle of the night, they don't turn up unannounced expecting to be let in at all hours. And this was a guy I had never even kissed no matter anything else.

In the end I did go to the guards with a list of times and dates and one of them had a quiet word with him .He stopped after that and last I heard he had moved to England. But it isn't nice when it happens and hopefully more will done to stop it.

Image based sexual abuse is what it's called now, to call it what it is and take porn out of the equation.

I sympathise with you for having to deal with that situation. Alas he is probably doing it to some other unfortunate woman in the UK

That happened to a friend of mine only last year. He changed his number 5 times as she kept blocking him. Unwanted gifts arriving at her door, driving behind her on her way home and even threatening to move into a rented house across the road from her. Eventually she opened up and told me and I wanted to rip his limbs off but sense prevailed and I brought her to the police with dates/times/places etc and it was sorted fairly quickly

Belfast

My eldest daughter had a stalker when she was in her late teens. He was a friend of a friend that she had one met can once at a party.

He got her number through the friend and used to send her pics of her car parked in various places as well as pics of her bedroom window.

She didn't tell me any of this and it was only after she went to the police and showed them the dozens of sexually explicit texts he had also sent that I found out. She was so embarrassed by the texts and the threatening language used and was afraid I would get in trouble if she had told me and I had gone after him.

I've also had someone stalk me on social media after I called her out on her obsession with her ex hubby and the abuse she was causing him.

On here I've also had a well known forumite stalk me and make all sorts of wild accusations simply because she suddenly realised one day that I had blocked her. The fact I had done it six months previously and she had only just noticed made a complete mockery of her accusations.

It's not just guys that are guilty of stalking
