Take a step back from all the madness, a lot of people are struggling, a lot of people are surrounded by people and feel lonely. This time of year heightens the feelings especially when so many are pretending their life is picture perfect and they have the best life going but a lot of it is a complete show

I have always hated xmas as I've always been single and once my son was done with santa the magic as such was gone but as I've got older I realise it's about family and friends even of its only a few people and making memories. This will be my 1st Xmas in 28yrs without my son celebrating with me (he's moved abroad) but its one day and the few I have off, I'm not putting any pressure on myself , I'm just going to chill out, watch TV, listen to music and hopefully catch up with friends.

Sending you hugs and anyone else that needs them

And sometimes just sitting in a corner or alone having a good cry or feeling sorry for yourself does no harm but remember to someone you are important.

What if we all do something about it and gather for a non-fab Xmas dinner ?

Wouldn't it be nice if a group of human beings come together and be eachothers family for the evening ?

I am sure there will be an open restaurant somewhere and that a good few people might like to join in.

Happy Christmas everyone xx

Get some routine and structure back into your life could be as simple as making your bed in the morning and taking it a day at a time.. I’ve been in the deep end and I’ve found that the simplest things go a long way. Remember that ur never alone bro

Fair play for reaching out OP.

That's the hardest but, the best thing you can do.

Ask yourself in what way are you lonely?

Like, are you lacking the company of friends, family, partner/lover or even a pet?

(No I won't be your pet lol).

Once you've identified the exact reason its easier to deal with the it.

Feeling pretty lost tonight myself, I've been in a bad place, and I've actually gotten back out of it, dont stress, its the time of year, it'll pass, it wont be easy, we all get lonely, tomorrow is another day, positive thinking is definitely the way, I know from experience that it might sound cheesy or stupid but it does work! New years eve 2011 i wanted to end it all, and here I am 11 years later and happier than ive ever been, everyone's story will be different, imay take more than 11 years, but keep going, happiness is there, it just takes a while to show up! Love to anyone Feeling low, I understand! Trust me, ride it out! You will eventually feel better! Obviously if you're in pain it will feel a lot longer, it WILL pass, im loving proof! Take priority in you're own feelings, dont stoop to pleasing others, make your own path! At the end of the day YOU are the constant! If people cant handle tjat they don't deserve your time! Life is a privilege, enjoy it! X

Don't look at it as struggling look at it as time to yourself to do things you want to do, go out & get d*unk, stay in & dance around naked to your favourite music or whatever floats your boat, it's your time your choice do whatever puts a smile on your face

Unfortunately, when you're that far down the line you don't think there is anyone left to talk to! I was lucky, i was able to avoid the inevitable! many dont! You definitely have to work at it!

Do you want to be happy?

Make the change!

Think for yourself!

Other people's opinions do not matter!

It YOUR life!

Take control!

So many people have taken the easy wayy out and could have been so happy given a little time!

Ive been there, I totally understand that time when you're down feels like its so so slow!

Push through! Pressure makes diamonds!

I am not a psychologist, I have no qualifications, but I've been there! FIGHT!!!!

Newry Down

The key is to stay as well connected to people as possible, by any means; and get out walking every day. It will lift your mood and get powerful hormones flowing through your body.

And stay away from alcohol which depresses your mood; develop a regular sleep routine with good sleep hygiene practices; google to see what these should be.

Talk to people as much as you can; even if you don't feel like doing so.

Dont over think it.

It's a Sunday like lots of other days. Go for a walk, have a look at the charity events like the goal mile or the sea swims, or as others have said the volunteer dinners to keep you busy.

Or go the other way and throw a pizza in the oven and turn on a movie.

Lots dont like it. Lots are working as usual and it's just another day.

If you ignore the hype and treat is like any other day it's not as big a deal.

And I speak from experience on this one having spent many years alone. Just treat it as a standard Sunday and ignore all the Christmas hype.

And mind yourself. Dont worry about others and mind yourself.

Make it fun for yourself I will be round some family but I bet ya I'll still feel lonely I find Christmas very hard even struggling now because I've a few less people at the dinner table as always..

Am doing something different this year not moping about boxing day am gonna spend sometime with a good friend and get the board games out cause they will be alone..

Maybe see what friends are doing and do something you've never done before maybe invite even one other friend to do something together...they might just be as lonely too reach out...

Or even volunteer to help the homeless or at a nursing home most of them folk are alone with no family x

I know it's sounds like a bit of list but to me they are so important.

1.Be kind to yourself , never compare yourself to others .

2.Do what you love doing , whatever it is.

3. Listen to your favourite music .

4.Watch your favourite films.

5.Do NOT ever feel you have to humour anyone , sometimes it can have a detrimental effect mentally if a person feels they have to act in a certain way towards other people, be yourself.

6.Get involved in whatever capacity in a club,as a volunteer or something , whatever , it will give you some thing do or somewhere to be at times of the week .

8.Refer to point 1 ...so important..be kind to yourself.

Be kind to yourself.

It is a difficult time, especially when all the adverts have big families and friends all around each other.

Have you thought about volunteering anywhere in the community as that can be very rewarding.

Just tell yourself it's just like any other time of the year, we listen to the bs about Christmas and everyone should be with their families and having a good time, it's all a facade a front for people on the outside looking in, if you're alone for Christmas just treat it like any other day, you've a day off relax watch some good TV do what makes you happy, enjoy life because it will all be over 1 day..

By being kind to yourself. Keeping the vitamins into you, hot showers even when you dont want to,treating yourself to the food you like, music and films that gives you a smile, stay away from nostalgic Christmas shite on the TV if you know its going to trigger. Remind yourself that no matter what your brain is telling you, you are loved, you matter and life will be good again. Know that if your brain is telling you anything else, it's only playing tricks on you and know not to listen. Christmas itself will be over before you know it and then we are getting back into longer brighter evenings and spring will be only around the corner again

Escape the madness and do what feels right for you.

But pick up the phone to as many people as you can and just chat….about anything …the weather , sport anything

I find it helpful just to talk to my friends throughout the day and don’t put any pressure on yourself on the day having to be anything other than another day for you

Take care

If you suffer from chronic debilitating loneliness, there may be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed to enable you to be more at peace with the person you want to be.

It might be worth invesing in a few hours with an insightful therapist or counsellor, who might tease out an unresolved issue, that is keeping you isolated and lonely.

For years I was involved in a toxic relationship, that I terminated; that freed me up to interact more healthily with other people. The toxic person was a controlling bully who put me down at every opportunity.

Great advice and I would also recommend this. Helping others always helps you feel better and keeps the mind active.

If you can, send some messages to people who you haven't been in touch with for a long while. Even if they don't reply, it will feel good to reach out. You never know, you might get to re-kindle the buzz with some old companions. Stay in the moment as much as you can - keep occupied and watch /listen to some good films/sporting highlights or music on your downtime that you know and love. Get out of the house in the daytime and get walking or cycling. Take it easy on the booze. Try and remember that you can choose to put your attention somewhere else, somewhere brighter. It's a heavy load - but just getting into good habits can create a good feedback loop.
