I’d suggest turning off the water. That way if the pipes aren’t burst but it’s just a leak at least if it’s off it can’t get any worse

If you have a storage tank in the attic you could also drain this by turning on the bathroom tap, flushing toilets etc, if not frozen, be careful with your heating system if connected to storage tank in attic, maybe open trap door to leave some heat up

I have a outside overflow pipe I think that's the issue it's totally frozen over. Now It's dripping down the light fitting in my room.

How difficult is it to get into your attic to see what’s going on up there? Might be worth going up to investigate further

There's a hatch access so the plumber could get up easy enough. Just praying he'll come out

Send me a DM if not

You need to get up there to investigate or it’s a lot more than a plumber you’ll require, call a neighbour or a friend while you’re waiting for the plumber

Newry Down

After the extremely cold and prolonged period of adverse weather conditions in 2010, I insulated my attic and all attic pipes to Scandinavian standards.

If you have inadequately insulated attic and pipes, in periods of very low temperatures you need to depressurise your system, by turning off the main stop cock and reduce the level in the main attic cistern.

But this could be unwise, if you need ongoing hot water.

Depressurisation should only be used overnight and not to be attempted if you do not fully understand the plumbing in your home.

Hey OP Hope you got properly sorted, and that there wasn't too much damage done. Burst pipes can be a nightmare.

Have a look at some of videos on Google Video from USA about winterising properties; some useful tips from northern states that endure extremely severe winters every year.

Quite fitting.... It being a broken ball cock... I'm sure you've caused that before
