I've got a few I watch religiously every year! Blackadder's Christmas Carol, Love Actually, Die Hard. Usually The Holiday and Bridget Jones Diary as well and I've added Mean Girls to the list this year |

It'a Wonderful Life is my Christmas, must-see!
James Stewart at his best, Donna Reed, Gloria Grahame and many other Hollywood stalwarts.
When it was made in the 1940s, IAWL was initially a failure, but has become popular because copyright expired, by mistake, and broadcast is now free for the television companies.
The only living actor is the little girl in the final scene, ZuZu, who makes the famous quote about angels and bells.
It's soppy film, but I am a sentimentalist and it elicits a tear from me, for personal reasons! |

A film of a very different genre, that was devised to be broadcast at Christmas and around the New Year, is William Wilder's superb film: The Apartment 1961.
A very dark film about adultery, exploitation, extra-marital affairs at the uppermost corporate level, suicide, hypocrisy, loneliness, love nests, alcoholism, the hypocratic oath, and genuine affection
It will probably be on again this Christmas; if you haven't yet seen it, watch it at least once.
Very thought provoking film for singletons! |

A relatively modern film, that is actually an old theme, The Prince and the Pauper, which was cleverly revitalised for the greedy 1980s was 'Trading Places' with Eddie Murphy, the memorably well-endowed Jamie LeeCurtis, veteran actors Don Ameche and Denholm Eliot, and cameo appearances by the film's director, and others.
The victim of the two wealthy brothers' wager attends a Christmas party for his firm's employees, after having been strpped of all his former wealth, property, prestige, car, friends and attractive trophy partner; and at their party he terrorises them, but that's really the full extent of the Christmas theme.
It was devised to be shown at Christmas, but it is still a well constructed story that has stood the test of time-40 years.

"Die hard and love actually
Watch those in reverse & you'll see Alan Rickman get his comeuppance for what he done to Emma Thompson "
Those scenes where she finds the Joni Mitchell album and then confronts him later still make me breakdown. |

I am a film buff, and love discussing all aspects of this artform,; Trading Places with Dan Ackroyd is up there with the very best of them, at Christmas |
