I'll have no choice but to cut back a bit. I'll definitely be going out less. Santa might have to make tough choices too and no Christmas getaway this year unfortunately |

I have a couple of major purchases to do in the early part of next year, so there'll be a little bit of cutting-back; a little!
There is price inflation, but also some evidence of price-gouging: it's an inevitability; business use a crisis to stick the arm into their customers. |

I don’t really celebrate Xmas but I will buy as normal for the kids and I want to get myself the dyson hairwrap. The adults though? None for you, Gretchen Weiner. |

Nope I never go mad at Christmas I'll get a few nice small presents for family and close friends and that's it. I'm off Christmas day this year so we are going to have a nice family day which is more important to me than presents or any of the superficial parts of Christmas. |

"It must be hard for parents with children especially single parents there is so much pressure to buy things they cannot afford.
Christmas is way to commercial."
Well it’s that or believe the Christmas story
The expectations have gone through the roof tbh

"Cutting back on my Christmas dinner, but more to reduce leftovers than anything else.
I always keep presents to a minimum, always did. Christmas season shopping = sheer horror. "
The pushing and shoving in the shops at Christmas madness. I'm going away for Christmas thank god |

We changed to kris Kringle years ago to save an absolute fortune and waste
Now everyone knows what they're getting cause they've given a list of 3 things they'd like but only on the day know what they get
The big shop absolutely feckin annoys me .....the amount of food that gets thrown out is disgraceful....its like we had a famine and it'd be embarrassing to run out of food for the guests that call in
The shops are only closed for 2 feckin days

Only buy gifts for my children (budgeted - none of this just because you wrote to Santa you want a smart TV, a new Apple iPhone and the latest Lego set, you get any or all of it, and never has been like that in my house either).
I don't spend Christmas at home generally - so happy to help a family member cook and clean up (at least I don't have to do the grocery shopping before the big day and need not worry about leftovers etc ).
I'm generally organised (German efficiency ) - let's see how it pans out this year.
Christmas is wayyyy too commercialised - I hate it...I just want to spend some quality time with my children and family, movies, games alongside a laugh and a cozy fire. |

Every year, in the month leading up to Christmas I visit shops that I would normally never visit, such as M&S, to witness what I can only describe as panic buying by anxiety-laden consumers.
Headline inflation is 10%, but food inflation, one component of the overall calculation, is very much higher and in some sectors is as high as 50%.
It will be interesting to see how this impacts the level of demand this year.
The truth is that if you buy staple foods and do your own processing and cooking, one can still live well.
Pester-power from children is relentless: young mothers under pressure. |

Spread the Santa presents for smallest throughout the year and oldest wants clothes & tv for room so black Friday is always used for him for last few years
To avoid the madness for the grocery shop do it on the 22nd not the 23rd like half the country does, with no more covid restrictions 23rd will be even more nuts this year folks so be warned |

Personally no I don't plan to reduce anything from previous years.
But I have been dropping subtle hints to my family not to be wasting the usual money on gifts for me.

Forget about the costs and shopping. Neither will last forever.
Instead of buying a gift, pick up the phone and call someone who you haven't spoken to in a long time and check how they are. You know there is one.
.
Even better, phone someone who actually wronged you and you stopped talking to for a long time and tell them, it is all forgotten and forgiven. Time for a new page to fill with better memories and care. Trust me it is so worth it and sooo liberating.
.
Wish you all a happy and healthy Christmas xxx.

They're not sponging, they've grown up through a decade and a half of Tory austerity and corruption!

Never gone mad at Xmas, think been a single parent I've always watched my money, listening to people say they cutting back on bills etc abd the cost of them I'm amazed at how people waste their money.
As for presents, santa only ever brought one small present and a surprise, any big gift came from me and my parents.
With family we spend 20 quid on a thoughtful gift. Over the last number of years any gifts to friends are special, last year I made xmas wreaths and xnas decorations, one year made a gift bag which contained a candle, a bath bomb, fluffy socks and some chocolate.

Mate, I’m 33 and I’m just after a cod and chips and you know what?
I’ll probably have another takeaway on Sunday if I’m hungover
Take that |

I feel for young families who are really struggling this Christmas; the govt's failure of issue the £600 energy payments is causing real hardship for them.
Financial stresses will adversely affect family relationships over the Christmas and New Year. |
