Curious are we biased by our selection process on here. As we can select age ranges that appeal to us.
Are we guilty of excluding the mature young person or the older young at heart.
Is the 18 to 99 age range a true reflection of our intimate desires or merely a fallacy.
Are we guilty of ageism and conversly have we been a victim of it ourselves. |

I'm sure some are willing to go for those in the entire age range to improve there chances of getting a meet personally we might go a couple of years either side of our range but probably not any further |

"I've my age limit 30-55 as I've kids in their 20s "
Same age category but I find some 30 year olds can be mature and some 55 year olds can be young at heart so I give everyone in that age range a chance. |

I think it's a little bit in built, male psychology if I was to go with that one, males are attracted to to younger (then they are) women they find women more attractive due to wanting to reproduce apart from someone that has had a something happen in there early life...and then women is more attracted to a man that is a hunter gatherer protector if you will doesn't mean it's right in anyway but its inbuilt be it our environment upbringing can and will change there attraction
for both sexes manly lchanged due to circumstances in their early life |

My lower age filter increases every year and will always be 10 years above my eldest child.
I couldn't care less how mature anyone below those filters may be and I've definitely never even considered that I could be missing out.
It's impossible to miss out on something you've no interest in in the first place.
That's a bit like saying it's someone's loss because they won't change their preferences to suit what you are offering.
If any of the above is considered ageism then I'll stick my hand up and plead guilty.... and then carry on doing it. |

I've my age filters set to help cut down the amount of messages I get mainly, but in saying that I probably wouldn't go much lower than them anyhow. I prefer men closer to my own age. I have messaged first people outside my age range if I like they profile or how they are on the forums.
I don't really care if people outside my filters think I'm ageist because it's usually a line thrown by those who get pissed off because they can't bypass filters to get a shag. The same ones who use the age is just a number line.
It's not ageist to have preferences anyhow . I know people outside my age filters who are amazing people but it doesn't mean I'd ever want to fuck them. |

Ageism towards people of my chronological age, without ever having met me in person or communicated with me, is the product of outdated cultural norms and inexperience.
When I applied for my last job, I had to do so in a way that disguised my age; I rapidly disabused my new employers of their views.
Ageism is principally a problem for those who have ageist attitudes, because they are limiting their own potential experiences with experienced people who are highly educated and have an unusually positive attitude to life.
Ageism is a product of ignorance and stupidity.
I know my own value; it is their loss if they fail to afford themselves a unique opportunity to appreciate mine! |

Very aggressive way to present yourself there. Says a lot. And certainly doesn't make me sorry for having my limits as they are. Quite the opposite in fact.
I have found that those I say no thank you to who are on the younger side of my age limit are a whole lot more understanding and gracious about it than those who are on the older side of it.
In terms of maturity for the younger, I agree they are all different.
My reason for avoiding too young is partly due to the ages of my children and partly due to my not being sexually attracted to those with young looking faces. Probably an in built sub-conscious avoidance radar due to the first reason
My reason for avoiding too old is that I have tried older and they have always proved themselves an incompatible life stage with mine and I have never found anyone to greatly impress me with any kind of erudite hotness due to supposed maturity. |

Ive reset my preffered age limits recently, but happy to meet all ages, and body types. How do i set a prefference for intelligent, attractive personalities? Meet as many as possible to find out, i suppose. |

Is it sexism, if I choose not to sexually engage with other women? I think it's totally ok to have preferences as an individual when it comes to leisure activity respectively sex unlike work related settings or in an educational environment.
Yes you can argue that you never know what you could miss out on but surely if the desire isn't there in the first place or if it goes against your 'natural flow' why push it? |

"Age is just a number ( consenting adults only).
Chemistry and similar interests are more important
Just go with the flow
"
Well now, I'll be disagreeing with you there. Age is very definitely not just a number.
Also, chemistry and similar interests are generally generational and age related |

Missing out on someone by 2 or 3 years is annoying as whst difference does 2 years make really when closer to 40 than to 30?
Same goes as a lot of ages set to max 35...id pass for 35 hahaha |

Likely cannot be answered. We are not a we, In relation to our desires we are individuals. If someone is being aged it's probably only in the audience of the person making that assumption function on their reason for setting a certain age desire |

"Guys over 55 don’t stand a chance, ladies all over 55 seem to be looking for 30/40 year old guys. The CDs & Ts & TVs seem to be the most honest on here"
Have to disagree with you
I'm too old for lots of people on here but also the right age for others
Its fun trying to find the connection

I didn't join here until I was 52 and in the 6 years since my age has never once been an issue or held me back.
I haven't sent a first contact message in almost 3 years so all the women who have contacted me since don't seem to have an issue with my age.
Like so many things on fab, it's only a problem if you make it one. |

Sadly, have to agree here. Straight Guys our age certainly seen as "surplus to requirements" here. But I've grown to accept that. It is what it is |

We tend to go for people who are similar ages to ourselves or slightly younger. This comes with caveats though. We are both fairly youthful (I think), in all aspects, and personally (speaking only for myself here and not E) I tend not to be attracted to people who look/act/dress typically "old".
So sue me |

It's the tables turning on the age-old trope of the middle-aged man casting his long-suffering wife aside & hooking up with the ubiquitous blonde bimbo 20'something.
Equal everything these days it seems, even older ageing related rejection.

Not sure ageism is the problem. Maybe as a blanket term. Id say its just down to preference for everyone. There may be a stigma on younger people on here and some should be thought of as more mature than their age but at the end of the day its personal preference. People having kids and not wanting to go to their kids age isnt something you can even think about arguing with either. |

I thought for years I didn't have a type, like blondes and brunettes, all hair colours, I like tall and short girls. Along with older and younger ladies, I've also found both skinnier and larger ladies equally attractive, different ethnic back rounds, accents, etc, I find them all fascinating and attractive, but I have found recently, not so recently that I actually do in fact have a type, it's sexually confident, naughty and for want of a better word slutty woman that drive me crazy. I find naughtiness and sluttiness the most attractive quality in a woman. So age hasn't any real bearing for me |

Not bias at all.
We all have our preferences, and if it’s not preferences there’s other legitimate reasons.
I wish however fab had a search option, where it would only show those looking to meet my age range. |
