Saw MJ live in cork in the 80's and listened to him a lot on my walkman

Haven't listened to him in years...its hard to separate the music from what he turned into

Saw Elvis "live" on a big video sceen with his original band playing in front of the screen and interacting with him in The O2 back in 2010

Still listen to his music..what a singer

Newry Down

Comparisons between these two music phenomena is problematical on several levels:principally because they were from different eras; Elvis was a singer who was easily manipulated whilst Jackson was much more creative and talented

They were of their times; decades apart, but each ended tragically and money did not bring contentment and happiness !

Many lessons to be learned.

Elvis,he brought rock n roll to the masses.

He was the original king of rock n roll and 45 years after his death his songs are still played, loved and enjoyed

cant believe, no one else has said it but, who was the bigger paedophile? Elvis dated a 14 yo and regardless of the accusations about MJ, he did have a stockpile of child nudes in seductive poses in his home when arrested, #buzzkill

Totally agree with you on the money/fame bringing happiness.

It seems like the more famous you are the less likelihood it is to have a normal life.

And the millions of kids out there at the moment, trying everything and anything to become famous should really look at people like Elvis and MJ and think, did they die happy??

Watching the new Elvis movie and all the bits on MJ, I don't think they did?

you know what, I guess you have a point, nothing said bout Elvis & priscilla and she was only 14. And her parent's let her go over to Graceland and attend SCHOOl. Mandy Smith and Bill Wyman she was 14 and he was in his fifty's again nothing said.

Newry Down

Elvis Presley by the mid 1950s had developed an unusual style of playing that was spotted and then ruthlessly exploited by a Dutch conman, called Andreas Van Kuijk, who adopted the name, Tom Parker.

Elvis had a very low level of intelligence, of about 80-90, and Parker too half of all Presley's earnings.

The sole reason Elvis was in films in the 1960s was because Elvis's fame from music had declined and Tom needed to increase his declining income.

Michael Jackson's talent was ruthlessly exploited by his abusive father.

Both musical talents that appealed yo the tastes of a teenage audience, were exploited to be income streams for exploitative father figures.

Their musical talents were merely successful business ventures that were devised and managed by others.

Both talented people's lives ended in misery and unhappiness.
