The quality of sleep that I experience is important to me, and I devote a lot of time researching ways to improve my sleeping environment, called sleep hygiene, and my depth of sleep.
Has anyone any experience of wool duvets, whether positive, neutral or negative?
If recently bought an IKEA wool duvet, king size for use on a double bed, in which I normally sleep alone; IKEA were selling them off at a massive reduction, but wool duvets do not come with the usual TOG rating, which makes them difficult to classify, or to compare with the others I have which are 2.5 for summer use, 4.0 for spring and autumn, and 13.5 for winter; plus a range of spreads and throws to use on top.
Wool duvets are heavy and quite similar to the wool blankets that used to be common decades ago, before duvets became commonplace.
I suspect the IKEA wool duvet, that they no longer sell, might be the TOG equivalent of an 8 or 9.

I've one of them. Wool has temperatures regulating properties, it should keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In other words one duvet could do the whole job.
Anyhow check out this website, they have guideline on it:
500gr wool/sqm equal 13tog+
300gr wool/sqm equals 4tog

Ex husband and myself invested in one years ago because of the regulating properties it had - he'd be too hot, I was always too cold. Best investment we made at the time - though the duvet reeked for the first few weeks of use.
He purchased it from an English crowd who used Irish sheepswool. He bought one that was considered seconds as it had an irregular stitching pattern which obviously didn't pass quality control for full price product.
Something I might actually look into, now that you've mentioned it |
