Has Miceal Martin, by making such a trenchant and critical anti-Russian speech at the UN, merely earmarked Ireland as a target for Russian aggression whether overtly, or covertly in the form of cyber warfare on Ireland's economy and infrastructure.
Would he, at a time of heightened political tension have been better advised to adopt a low profile, since we do not have the resources to withstand negative attention from this rogue state, and its unhinged leader, Vladimir Putin. |

Don't think we are marked in particular.... you'd fear for the nations bordering Russia tho. We are too far away and too insignificant to be bothered with. |

Agreed. "
Also agree, we're a tiny pissant country that nobody takes seriously, the furthest possible thing from a threat. |

Seriously who gives a flying pancake what Mehole has to say? His words won't travel much further than the irish media, I doubt they get as far as the Kremlin.
If anything we're marked for a different reason: Shannon airport and American troops. |

"Our policy is mostly to hide in the bushes while the fight is happening. This kind of speech is just us briefly sticking our head out and shouting an insult, and then hiding again. "

Mehole is full of shite as per usual, I don't even think he was at the un council meeting it was Simon Coveney who attended, Serghei lavrov called him a liar for calling out Russian war crimes in bucha which lavrov said were staged and falsified, it wasn't that long ago Russia said they would aim a nuclear warhead into the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Ireland which would create a massive tsunami that would "sink" Ireland.. Ireland could never sink in theory but the tidal surge would kill anything living on this island once the water receedes.. |

You forgot to mention that the nuke threat was addressed to the UK and not to Ireland. We're just collateral damage and shows our insignificance in this scenario. |

Yeah a small island on west coast of Europe that could very easily be eliminated, even the UK is miniscule this is what Russia is trying to prove, we think we are more important than we are and we're not |

It's a testament to the brilliance of Russian propaganda that people still believe they could launch nukes at France,Germany or the UK!
Unfortunately for the Russians it's the only thing they excel at!
Russia is a kleptocratic, mafia state and corruption has hollowed it out. That they could even store, handle and operate nuclear equipment is very questionable. That they would be able to get a nuke fired out of Russia successfully is laughable! |

And yet they somehow manage to get spacecraft into orbit and docked with the ISS. Don't be too quick to judge their technology. |

What i can't understand us how so many Russians think it's ok to breach international law by invading another country, even on the premise of 'Russian-speaking people being terrorised' in Eastern Ukraine. Many are forced silent but surely most have to disagree with it? Or are they so used to violence that they readily accept it? |

But nobody is trying to or wants to stop them doing that. In fact the west has widely supported and assisted them in doing so.
Apples and oranges! |

It wouldn't be the first time an Irish politician made a public statement, which later jeopardised Irish people.
Ive worked with Russians in the former Soviet Union, who casually demonstrated their ability to hack into computer systems in the west, over a coffee! I found they are intelligent , educated, cultured and technologically advanced. Thay also have adifferent world view in relation to death and dying than we "weaklings" in the west(as they describe us). |

If their technology is have as good at their Ukrainian invasion force then we can all sleep well.
As for icbm or nukes it's just a matter of mutual destruction and if Russia was going to fire one they'd probably want to hit a better target than an island in the Atlantic.

Clearly not when you look at how many men are now desperately trying to get out of Russia to avoid going being drafted. |
