What was the last topic you changed your mind on ?

More specifically what was the last thing you never thought you'd change/evolve your mindset on ?
It's interesting to me as people like to debate on here and in real life but are very often incapable of changing their own minds and want to do that exact thing to others without realising just how entrenched they are in their own views. |

I used to think that everyone with entrenched views was belligerent and bigoted based solely on where I have always lived.
I've changed my opinion in recent years and accept that it's possible to have firm beliefs and a specific viewpoint and not try to hammer them home in every conversation.
They often only appear as entrenched when reflected in those they are disagreeing with.
Depending on the topic I often have more respect for people with entrenched views than I do for those who don't have an opinion of their own and their views change to suit the narrative or when they need the validation of others. |

Interesting post RB. I've always respected those who have considered opinions. Those that have put thought into them and tried to see from other angles. Those who like to hammer them home in every conversation say more about personality type than validity of the opinion.

Motorbikes, to much hassle all the gear to get on, the weather is spotty, can't leave it at a pub and have a beer (you can but it will get pinched and you can't ride home)
Only used by people who have boring lives, bellys and beards.
But hey...... Powerrrrrrr.
So changed my mind there  |

Think someone in work did the math the last day
Anything under 8k and your pay ack to time if prices stay about the same is 5/6 years which is crazy. |

5 / 6 years is a lot better than it was.... and electricity prices are only going up!
But absolutely 100% you have to work out the payback period, and also be careful about expensive battery addons because you need to be producing a good bit more than you're using to get it charged up |

Hillwalking.
For years I looked at hills, and people walking up and down them, and thought "what a waste of time".
I now realise that I was missing out. The isolation, the views, the fresh air.. Glorious! |

Also reusing and buying beautiful vintage things rather than new. "

could be faster payback with rates set to go up again. couple pv's with an electric car and you could have them paid back on 4 years or less. trouble now is installers are busy and upping prices and panels inverters and batteries are getting more expensive by the week. next year for me hopefully. I too changed my view on them recently |

The new atheism movement, a few years ago now.
Thought it was the bees knees when I was younger..then I realised a lot of the main actors in it are pretty bad when it comes to issues like foreign policy, history, economics etc.
Still an atheist..though I'm more of a chris hedges guy than a richard dawkins guy. Though hedges is quite 'biblical' in his style. |

Am a long standing atheist... but its absolutely not necessary go subscribe to anyone else's style of atheism. It's enough to just have the absence of religious belief. |

The power of giving back. I always had flippancy to those who volunteered. Like it's for busy bodies who are retired. Im now an active volunteer and I get more back from helping, the sense of community and friendships made.
You get more than you give.  |

The cost of extraction, treatment and distribution of the water used in washing items before putting them in the recycling bin may be greater then the value of the recycled item.
All recycling materials get sorted and washed as part of the recycling process.
Needs to be considered.

The modern world is awash with a vast amount of information bombarding each person continuously; I used to listen to the news and FOMO- a fear of missing out, used to be my policy, my modus vivendi.
I no longer listen to the news and television, as a source of information, has largely been eradicated from my life.
I have virtually no power to influence what happens, so I have switched off! |

All the Ukranians coming here (nothing against them),and suddenly the governmeant can roll out tented villages and nice modular homes for them.
Yet before the war,they were incapable of doing any of that for the 10,000 Irish homeless.
Now 11,500 homeless,and rising.
Thats what perplexes me. |
