Unfortunately that's part of growing up. You just have to suck it up.
I can't advise you to throw a sicky. Can you do without the money and be OK knowing your understaffed work colleagues are doing even extra work with you not being there.
You could go to the party and leave early or set the drink limit or not drink and go into work the next day.

I have an acquaintance who has long-term mental health problems, and appears to be going off the rails again; he is very abusive, threatening, angry, irritable, paranoid insulting and suspicious.
How should I deal with this potentially dangerous person? |

If he is a danger to himself or others, you can report them by contacting mental health.
