I remember a pub off Grafton Street back in the day before mobiles
Each table had a telephone on it
You could ring the table from the telephone on your table and ask to talk to someone at that table
If ye got on you could tell them your table and wave and have a drink ....or they'd hang up....pretty brutal with your mates sitting beside you laughing
But sometimes they'd ask you to hand the phone to one of mates
Wasn't life simpler then to get a shift |

If you could get a girl to dance for the final slow set of the night you were sorted, unless she happened to have a bf that she had just had a row with and he decided to ambush you as things were getting steamy.

The so-called good old days are simply a myth; technology has opened up access to the world in a way that would have been unthinkable, unimaginable even twenty years ago.
Isolation has been replaced by connectedness; connecting the dots now takes seconds whereas in the past it took months to make contact with women.
Vive la difference! |

It definitely didnt take months to connect with women in the 80's in fact it was a lot simpler and easier
You were in a pub or nightclub you spoke to them |

People are more isolated now than ever despite all the supposed connectedness |

.
Respectfully disagree. Despite the numerous channels and platforms of communications, which are easily accessible thanks to modern technology, statistical analysis of data collected from mental health care establishments and professionals are painting a rather ominous picture that isolation and loneliness have been major causes of depression diagnoses.
This is not an opinion, this is a conclusion based on anonymised data. |

In the 2000’s women used to approach me. Never had to work on my game until I gained a reputation and being called a gigolo by the girls in my town !!! My name was blackened after that
Good times though |

I welcome a respect your opinions; however what I am specifically referring to is the total lack of social life in the northern six counties from the late-1960s through to the late-1990s; from my perspective it was awful.
When I lived south of Dublin in the early-1990s, I was flabbergasted at how citizens in the republic lead normal relaxed lives.
I feel infinitely more connected to people now, and can relax and enjoy life.
Unless you lived in the north you cannot imagine what it was like; I spent six years in Belfast and days after I left (to work in Dublin) a guy was murdered in my former workplace, following months of covert paramilitary surveillance on the site. |

How is that simpler than making a profile , making a forum thread about improving it, winking , messaging , chatting , arranging , canceling because of a positive covid test/work/dead granny/horse related accident then meeting and snogging ? |
