What's something from your childhood that was completely normal but today wouldn't even be imagined?

I'll start, a whole football team bailed into the back of a transit van, no seats or seat belts and driving at break neck speed round the country, ( I was one of the players, not driving ha)

There is a really steep hill in my home town. Ironically it ram past the graveyard.

On a snowy or frosty day we would rip down it on an old car bonnet.

Making go carts from pallets, pram wheels, and old twine for steering in the early 80's. Racing it down the road with a push from your mates, overshooting a busy crossroads, seeing your life flash before your eyes in the shiny chrome hubcaps of a passing Ford Escort, screeching to a halt eventually, both you and the car, heart thumping in your chest and ears, listening to said owner of Ford Escort bollock you out of it, then proceeding to fix your wonky wheel, still bollocking you out of it...And you do it all again the next day.

Being allowed to stay out in the estate until dark. Even at 11pm during the summer.

Buying 20 Benson and hedges for your Ma and Da cos they were too lazy to go to the shop.

Buying matches.

Filling up a 2 litre bottle with petrol for the lawnmower instead of a proper gas cannister.

Basically any game that doesn't involve a console.

Hopscotch

Tip The Can

Red Rover

Rounders

Kiss Chase

Musical Statues

Stuck in the Mud

Skipping

Newry Down

Packed churches full of devout worshippers, dressed in their Sunday best and being instructed about how to live their lives, by a single unmarried guy, and based on a mythical man,who had lived in the desert thousands of years ago.

And people actually paid for the experience when a wooden place was passed around for donations!

People had caught on to their hypocritical crap.

As u approach Shannon airport just at the end of the dual carrige way theres a hill that during the summer when the grass is really dry u can get a big carboard box out of the skips at one of the factories across the road and it became a huge slide straight down on to the main airport road thankfully there wasnt many cars back then

Counting the busses going into Shannon industrial estate 64 single deckers and 70 double deckers the greens would have loved it every one on the busses as noone had cars

The whole family sat around a tiny 18” black and white tv. But the size didn’t matter because the only thing worse than the picture was the sound.

Having only two channels to watch and there was none of these fancy buttons like today you had to turn a dial and search for it.
