Exactly! I've been in Barcelona more than 20 times never had any problems ..like any big city keep your wits about you 
Some great rooftop bars (look at tripadvisor)
El Bosc de Fades - gorgeous little bar off the Ramblas
Can Paixano - really cheap cava bar with great tapas (only serves cava) try their Rosado cava it's amazing!
Plenty of great bars/clubs on the beach in Barcelona on way to Port Olympic
La Terraza is a great outdoor club in Montjuic
Enjoy! We were there for Sonar in June much an amazing city

Barcelona has a man made beach in Barceloneta but it's actually fine! Or head past Port Olympic there's a great beach after it in Besos.
If you hop on the train there are some great beaches close by...try Castelldefels or Sitges (bit like Miami beach) approximately 30 mins from city.
