As a (genuinely) 66 year old male, who has neglected his wardrobe for several years, what style should I adopt, clothes-wise, when I upgrade my stock of attire?
I don't want to have the 'mutton dressed as lamb' look, which would be silly but I do want to look fresh, vibrant and frankly, appealing! |

Are you talking about dressing as a woman or man?
Why I ask is the term mutton dressed as lamb is a term used for women and not a nice one.

I know the mutton saying is usually used in the female context, but I have usually construed it to mean older people, of either gender, who dress inappropriately for their chronological age.
I wish to dress as a male, but not as an old fogie, nor as a young person, which I am not.
It's a matter of choosing that critical dividing line; I usually dress in an unappealing way: scruffy and unkempt, but not visibly dirty or malodorous! |

Nicely shaved then or a well kept beard. Hair wax or pomade keep the hair looking neat.
Nice shirts, chinos/jeans plain jumper.
There's many options, you wear what you like and are comfortable in.
Just because you're an older gentleman doesn't mean you've to dress like it.
Try a website with a personal shopping service or a store.
The items they'll select will give you an idea for outfits.

Unfortunately I can't use my powers for that, personal gain isn't aloud.
