I would say men are more cynical, and women more trusting.
Wether you get away with it depends less on how good a liar you are, and more on who you are telling it to. |

The ability to lie, and crucially to be able to get away with it, for example by the fact that no-one challenges your lie, is indicative of the power dynamic at play.
People at the top of the societal pecking order: politicians, leading entrepreneurs, businessmen and technocrats, heads of government departments, etc., all lie on a daily basis.
If they are challenged, for example by media/tv interviewers, they have pre-boiled replies to thrown the inquisitor off the scent.
In day to day interactions everyone lies, exaggerates or distorts reality, aka the truth.
Most of us are just to polite to confront the liar, whose distortions can range frominor white lies to manipulative gas lighting and coercive control, which is currently being widely reported discussed and entering the mainstream public consciousness. |
