Dublin west

37 years ago today the Live aid concert took place.

In an era of social media and downloads will we ever see the like again..

And we got to see one of the greatest performances ever when Queen took to the stage..

For those of us old enough to remember it, where have those years gone and I bet you can remember where you watched it from.

Limerick

I remember our local community centre showed it on a big screen and you donated upon entry. I was too young to be overly interested tbh but yeah, the Queen performance was phenomenal especially knowing the background to it.

I had just finished the leaving cert and watched every minute of it on front of the auld 22 inch colour TV. It was an incredible production.

Tramps disco bar in Crumlin....from 10.00 am in the morning to get a good seat watching on the big screens

Apart from the bands performances the main memory I have is when David Bowie stopped his set to introduce a video taken by a canadian News crew

Someone had put a soundtrack on it The Cars.....Drive

As they sang the line "who's going to hear you scream " A baby screamed in the video.....there wasnt one person not crying after that in the pub....incredible

Belfast

I was working and visited about 15-18 bars that day within a 40 mile radius and saw Status Quo kick it off and snippets the rest of the day. I didn't see the Queen performance until years later but I thought Bowie was brilliant and the fact he defied the TV broadcasters and introduced the film about the reasons behind the event half way through his set said a lot about him as a person.

The broadcasters had threatened to go to a blank screen if they showed it between acts and Bowie said fuck it, I'll do it.

Not old enough to remember it but queens 20 min slot was the greatest ever 20 mins of live music, ever. It had everything, from start to finish. Freddy was a genius, what a performer

I was working and the bus driver has his radio on as he was driving had no idea there was a concert even on or reason behind it

Do remember Bob Geldof saying the F word when he asking people to donate and having to apologise after for saying such word as people complained

Lancaster

I was at my nephew's wedding in Essex - stuffed into my suit on a boiling hot day (or at least what we thought was "boiling hot" then before global warming started to bite). The reception was totally marred by a row between my nephew and his dad because of the latter's refusal to provide a free bar - they didn't speak to each other for at least 15 years afterwards. Families, eh?

Newry Down

I will never forget that Saturday afternoon; I was only ablt to dip in and out of that astonishing concert because I was finalising the proof of concept for a process I had been developing for nearly three years.

Heady days in so many fronts!

I remember watching it with my big brother. It took two video tapes to record it. Queen was the highlight for us both
