"Don't give out your phone number arrange to meet by chatting here or on another social app ..."
Yep I've never given out my number before a first meet.
I always do a social first as well to see if they are who they say and to see if we actually get on in person.
Set boundaries that suit you both . |

How long is a piece of string?
Realistically, it depends on how high you set your standards and the amount of effort you are prepared to commit, which will be evident to the other party, very evident!

Do be prepared that nothing sexual is going to happen, for one or the other reason.
Don't be surprised or overly sad when they don't show up.
Do be polite and treat them as you would want to be treated. (Unless both if you are into that, but that's another story.)
Don't be surprised if they're different from what you expected.
Do tell someone you trust where you're going and have a check-in interval.
Don't force yourself or worse get coerced into anything you don't really want to do.
Do set boundaries and manage expectations on both sides. |

Be respectful.
Don't set high expectations as the meet could end up then and there, plus if you don't have high expectations it's less likely to be disappointed.
Be yourself. |

Do try to quickly ascertain if they’re worth your time . Are they actually what they state on their profile ? Are you likely to get on ? Trust your instinct and move on if it doesn’t feel right |

Yes your gut feeling is your sense after decades of interacting with people . You d hardly want to be in a vulnerable situation in a car or a hotel with someone you have had some concerns about |

The only issue with trusting your gut is that it can give a lot of false positives. It's great as a survival strategy but not necessarily as a thriving strategy.
It can often be used to avoid potentially painful situations which can cause us to avoid potentially rewarding situations.
Of course, the negative consequences of not trusting your gut can far outweigh the benefits, if it does go wrong. But, rather than avoid such situations completely, it might be possible to take precautions which mitigate the possibility of the negative outcome. |

We have the same thing, regarding vetoing a meet. If one isn’t sure then we don’t do it.
Going with my gut feeling is stopping us meeting at the moment even though logically, I know why certain people or couples say and do the things they do.

A quick cam before the meet. This is good way to find out if there is some attraction and the obvious, that they are real of course. Spur of moment meets can be exciting, but a planned one is even better |

The dos and donts of a meet can be compared to the task of flying a plane from one destination to another.
The checklists are really common sense and are essentially the same for every flight; but each aircraft is different and the weather one encounters along the way reveals the real skill of the pilot, and the comfort of the ride he provides to the passenger(s)!
The skilled pilot does the best he can on each sector, and each flight enhances his or her experience!
The real experts become like Captain Sully and despite a bird strike he was able to land on water.
There are no checklists for such an eventuality! |
