You can put your name down on a cancellation list and they will contact you when a slot becomes available. Otherwise check daily for free slots that become available. That's what I did and got an appointment a few days later. |

There was no dates near any of the Nct centres near me when I went to book this week. They were all for November and December But I did manage to get one for today. I kept tab open on my pc at work and kept checking during the day. My sister had same issues but she said a good time to log on is around midnight when the put back on bookings that were cancelled and she got one as well. |

"Yes if you ring them you get on a cancelation list
But do I want a 10.20pm appointment which is what I was offered ? "
I don't mind what time, late or just before lunch is normally the best times. |

Apply for an urgent appointment. I just did but nothing confirmed yet! You are currently on a priority list and should receive details of an appointment within the next two weeks.
Thi sis the reply I got:
For more information on the new changes to the test and how your vehicle may be affected, please log onto www.ncts.ie or www.rsa.ie.
We look forward to serving you and wish you every success with your NCT.
Yours sincerely,

Book after midnight… I just booked now and got Sunday. Cancellations come in all the time. There were 3 slots available in the next 2 weeks and then it’s October. So 3 people cancelled today. |

Got one. The midnight booking worked and was my last night's excitement. Thank you guys for all your tips!!!
Being a moany bitch I have to say though: It's all wrong!!! Another f-up service among all the other f-up services.
We export now pleople on public health list to get their procedures done in other EU countries - in Spain was a new hospital opened the other day just for the Irish.
Next we must drive to France to get the NCT done in time. |

My nct is out a few months and I don't have a date till October. Been stopped once or twice and they haven't even looked at the nct. Think it's like before where you have a 6mt grace period due to the amount of ncts booked atm |

The question is if your insurance gives you grace in case of an accident. They jump on any excuse not having to pay. |

Ohhh that I couldn't tell ya but I'm assuming not as insurance companys will give any reason to not pay out so to them if you don't have all three certs on display then legally the car shouldn't be on the road. The law is a funny thing really |

Well there you go.
The government could sort this out in no time with a few un-bureaucratic decisions but they can't be arsed as they're not acting for the people of Ireland. |

That's exactly why I gave up on the government years ago haha. Don't matter why the public put in charge, they will always be a bunch of clowns in that place. |

Don’t know about the south but if your date is coming close you can phone the center and they will get you in asap. Handy thing about the north is cancellations are alway there everyday (just have to be quick to get them lol ) also I’ve heard from a few people up here about “friendly MOTs” for £250 seems sketchy lol |

"Did the car pass"
It did eventually. Now the following happened to me last year and this year: car badly fails on emission test, I do absolutely nothing about it, go to retest and emissions are fine.
Something stinks but it isn't my car.... |

The best way is to ring or go online at midnight. Or better again if you have a contact in a center that can get you in. That's what I do. I have heard of insurance claims getting rejected because the car has no nct. It's pretty unfair to do that when you can't get an appointment. It's not the public's fault. So just don't let it be out too long. |

I called the NCTm and put my name down for a cancellation, I did give specifics as to when I am available as in days and times and location . They came back to me with a cancellation within 3 weeks and within the time frame that suited. I have been hearing lots of stories about several months of a waiting list but I found this method really worked for me. |

"How are you supposed to book an nct if there's no dates available until November? " I rang them directly and had one in 2 weeks, or I heard if you log on between 12 and 1 am slots available then after cancellations during the day |

There's no leeway given up here for not having an MOT. You can't tax it without one but if the tax runs out before the date of the MOT they are turning a blind eye ever since the issues with the inspection lifts at the beginning of 2020.
As soon as the MOT runs out though the car has to be taken off the road regardless and they aren't making any exceptions. |

My car was due this month and I was trying to book a test and 1 in September and 1 in October were my only options! I logged in at 4am on a Wednesday and got a test for the following Friday, two days later! The mind boggles really with the whole situation. Logging in early seems to be the way to go |

Guards are one thing giving grave
What would you think insurance companies policy would be if you were in an accident - you know they are for trying to get out of things |

Do you drive petrol or diesel? You can get a solution to put into the disel tank and take for a good drive at a high rev.. 3rd gear 22 to 30 revs.. for about 40km and should clear it out. Also a solution you can put in on a regular basis.. if its disel it needs a regular long run to keep the DPF (filter) clear. Otherwise it can clog up |
