Most personally applied fake tan is not attractive
The hands of those who do their own application is usually a giveaway.
I personally don't like fake tan; well-applied makeup is much more attractive! |

I use the Dove visible summer glow. Circular motions and don’t go heavy on the hands, and it looks pretty good.
Putting it on and then leaving it to absorb is an absolute pain, but much better option than sunbeds (which I use to do) and makes me feel better about myself so I do it once a week. |

BPerfect/BBold would be my recommendation. If you're new to tanning I'd specifically recommend the fair/medium lotion.
The secret to good tanning though, no matter which product you use, is good preparation. Everyone has their own routine but this is mine:
Exfoliate every other day in the week running up to the day you want to tan.
The day before you plan to tan should be the last day you exfoliate. On this day apply no moisturising lotions other than to your feet & ankles, hands, knees and elbows. This should also be the last day you shave your legs.
On your chosen tanning day, if you plan to tan in the morning do not shower. If you plan to tan at night, shower but don't use any lotions.
Apply your chosen tan using a good quality velvet mitt or tanning brush. Again the BPerfect ones are great and I'd recommend the cuffed one as it helps avoid build up on the inside of the wrist. Use a circular motion to apply, and aif you don't have someone to do your back you can get back tanning applicators. Wipe the palms of your hands and inner wrists carefully with a baby wipe or a warm slightly damp flannel. DO NOT tan your wrists and hands - we're going to do those separately along with your face
Hands should also be exfoliated daily and hand creme applied regularly for the best results. I also use cuticle oil daily. My hand exfoliation of choice is dry brushing. About an hour before you tan do your final hand exfoliation and apply hand creme. After tanning your body apply tan to your hands & wrists using a flat headed make up buffing brush. Form your hand into a claw shape so you can get between and along the sides of your fingers and into the creases of your knuckles. I use a small version of the same type of brush to do around my nails & on my fingertips. Use small circular motions. There are some great tutorials on YouTube that will explain it better than I have probably!
Use the same larger flat headed brush to buff tan onto your face taking care to blend it sparingly into your hairline, down under your jaw and into your neck, behind your ears and over your earlobes.
Try not to dress for about half an hour and wear loose clothing. Generous application of talc all over will help avoid rub off especially in creases.
If you tanned in the morning, rinse your tan off approx 8 hours later but don't use any products in the shower. Dry your body lightly and apply body lotion. Regular application of body lotion will help maintain your tan.
If you've tanned at night, do as above but the following morning.
I've probably forgotten something but generally this is my go to method after many years fine tuning
