I think its right to shave for a first meet unless you know for sure the person likes stubble/ beards.

Beard rash isn't fun, one poor woman's face got so red, I thought i was in bed with a giant tomato...

A lot of women like a hairy chest, but hairy backs seem to be a no no which is a shame as they are nightmare to shave.
