It's based on CO2 emissions on vehicles registered after 2001. Standard 2 litre is probably Band H or J and about £300.The bluemotion engine is Band C so only £30.

Last time I paid a mechanic £400 he had fitted a new engine. I would tell them to go fuck themselves at £1200.

Thats on a newer than 08 car. Anything before 08 is still on the old cc based tax system. So for the same car you'd be paying 800ish road tax on a pre 08.

Been into cars down south is an absolute nightmare. Getting rode on fuel, insurance and tax.

I'd be unhappy if a service cost me more than €150 never mind even your lower figure.

What car is it that the service costs so much?

Volvo ....I don't mind because as I said I negotiated a 3 year service plan as a free extra when I bought it....the money I had to pay was for new discs and windscreen wipers

My last car a ford was 300 odd for a standard service ....I only ever use the garage where I buy the car to service them ....haven't a clue whats under the bonnet apart from the washer bottle

There are probably some nice 1992 / 1993 cars that would qualify or soon qualify for vintage tax.

Might be the way of the future.

And for the environmentally friendly people, the pollution caused by manufacturing a new car is immense compared to the actual driving of it.

If I lift up the bonnet I know where the washer bottle is....thats it

I bought the car and then negotiated 3 years free servicing because so many people cancelled their orders when covid hit

I'm a firm believer in paying someone qualified to do the right job....so its just a cost of ownership...need 2 tyres this month...€400 ....

I assume the road tax goes towards something good for society and I'm happy with €190 for over 200hp. Insurance on the other hand, I'll do everything I can to keep more in my bank and less in their bank.

There’s No such thing as a Free service

Pay qualified gangsters to rip you off

Had same deal

Brought car in for service but beforehand marked the filters with special type paint in hidden areas

Got car back handed a bill and looked through it

Filters billed for

I told him I had 3 yr service free so he asked me for the bill back

Got home and proceeded to check the filters and he ho the same filters marked with the paint

Never changed

But I have photographs of before and after all dated so waiting for next service and see what happens

Then I’ll have fun .. and this is a Big Main Dealership so there’s gonna be questions to answer

This carry on has been going on for years with unsuspecting customers

But I’m involved in the motor industry so I know about it
