A young Catholic woman gets murdered 11 years ago on her honeymoon and a song is composed and the words are known and widely circulated
To celebrate NI’s Centenary
everyone get together in an Orange Order Hall and belts out the words to it
It’s filmed for shares and likes
Meanwhile the head of Orange Order gets an Award from the Queen for services to the community |

The lyrics
“She went to her room to get a wee treat
Something **** strangers she did meet
They hammered & they hammered & they bate her about
John mcarevey never gave her a shout.
Roun &round&up&down
Through the streets of ballygawley town” |

I personally think that the people recording these disgusting behaviors are only doing it with one thing in mind they are as bad as the people involved I know 1 case in the UK where a footballer was recorded by his brother miss treating a cat and both parties were charged |

"They showed their true colours, Orange
Orange is as Irish as green.. Take a look at our flag
Google what the flag means.
Fyi all , the national color of ireland is actually blue not green"
Green for nationalists, white for peace, orange for unionist protestant community
I know what the flag means |

Totally disgusted at the song/video. If it hadve been a Protestant/Islam/Judaism, I would’ve felt the same. That beautiful girls death will always stick in my head. My thoughts & prayers go out to her family.
I live ‘up there’ as someone put it, I grew up in a staunchly protestant area, followed the bands & orange order as a teenager, loved every bit of it. But that doesn’t make me ‘one of those’. I grew up & discovered religion isn’t what made me who I am today. I am me & I love people. Not their religion, colour, or creed. Please don’t see this as a hate everyone message, it’s quite the opposite. Love the people, not their religion. |

i dont think this kind of post / story should be on Fab. Yes they were 100% in the wrong and if i understand rite one of the men in the video was member of Linfields backroom staff & they have sacked him for his actions.
Also dont think it will be too long before the others will be found out either and actions will be taken by the police and the Orange Order.
The thing is you cant tar everyone with the same brush just because of a few w***ers. The sad thing is that there are sad people on both sides of the divide who think its ok to carry on like this.

We need to have more love for each other and less hate. Now, in regards to the video.. it was a stupendous and idiotic thing to do. Its their family who will suffer because of it. I hope people, no matter what religion you are, will learn that vile things like the Michaela McAreavey video can never do any good in this world. |

Loyalism has no place in any form of civilised society it is a hate filled bitter ideology. We have politicians telling us we need to integrate these animals into the new unified Ireland but there is no way this will work. Fill the planes and fuck them back off to England |

It all about the ‘ # LOOK@ME’
Very unfortunate what happened to that young lady with her life in front of her or anyone who it has happened to
May she RIP and haunt those bastards |

Unionist voters in this imaginary new united ireland would vote in their representatives and earn seats in the dáil. that's why they would need to be integrated. They exist on this island like it or not, and a united ireland would being them in to all-ireland politics. |

Pixie you've nailed it sweetheart.
As one of them 'uns up there - a Protestant from a staunchly loyalist area, a moderate unionist, a band member - believe me, the actions of these few are viewed as abhorrent amongst our community too. Anyone who thinks that this representative of the majority is either deluded or unwilling to have any other opinion.
The amount of bitterness and intolerance displayed by some on this thread is pretty distasteful for people who are calling out a whole community for exactly the same thing |

You see it’s the narrow minded blinkered sad individuals on here who tar everyone with the same brush when it’s only a few who cause the grief.

Loyalism itself is a perfectly valid ideology just like nationalism, no point suggestion otherwise just because you don't agree with it, yes there are knuckledraggers in Loyalism but nationalism is the very same, it's filled with bigotry and ignorance and I think you'll find many of our northern neighbours are a Scots heritage not English.. |

It disgusts me to the core. This is not an isolated case. You can be sure this anti Catholic and anti Irush sentiment is rife within such organisations. It is part of the mind set. Very little has changed in some parts of NI. We took part in a democratic election and now we are held to ransom by the DUP who want to govern on their terms. They over reached on Brexit and are not trying to cover the tracks of the mess they made. I feel sorry for the Harte and McAreavey families. Society should not shy away from exposing these bigots. They should suffer the consequences. |

The orange order is an out dated organisation that shouldn't be allowed in today's society. They belong in the dark ages. |

In trying to gain some modicum of insight into the genesis of this video, which I have not yet seen, you have to understand the intended audience and the recipient whom it was specifically designed to wound and humiliate.
Michaela, the lady whose brutal murder was so inadequately investigated by the limited resources of the local police, was the daughter of an exceptionally well known team manager within the GAA hierarchy.
The powerful, influential and financially wealthy and successful GAA in Ulster is detested by many members of The Orange, and especially because GAA facilities have been named to commemorate the deaths, on active service, of former PIRA members and Hunger Strikers.
The demise of mainstream protestantism, for simple demographic reasons is a very hard pill to swallow.
I fully understand the motives of these two men who epitomise the group think mentality that obtains at present within loyalism and unionism.
They are on the back foot, to coin a phrase, and this horrific video exemplifies their displaced anger and frustration that has badly backfired. They have shot themselves in the foot from a public relations perspective! |

Yet here members of our local lodge have, to date over the past number of years, raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for The Children's Cancer Unit, Daisy Lodge & Angel Wishes through various activities and challenges including scaling Kilimanjaro. In addition they have also helped several local families personally whose children have and still are battling cancer. They have been supported right across the community by all. The money they've helped raise has benefited all.
As is often the case, it's the despicable action of the few that make the headlines, whilst the deeds of those who are doing good remain unsung. |

The two professionals who compiled and uploaded the video; I suspect this was done, with drink taken and is now regretted. |

Behavior like this should be called out and addressed absolutely anywhere that is possible.
The fact that some people don't see the hypocrisy in their own bigoted responses doesn't mean it's not a worthwhile thread.
And just highlights their thinking for others to avoid them |

I haven't seen the video but don't need to see it to realise how idiotic and insulting it is and how idiotic and insulting the follow up is also in saying that it wasn't meant to be made public.
I agree with the comments above though about not tarring everyone with the one brush.
I know that social club well because I supplied equipment and services to it for 10 years and I can guarantee the members will be just as angry about this as anyone else.
It's a community club that was taken over by paramilitaries in the 80s and the local community banded together and went into the club one day and took it back and removed all paramilitary regalia.
They spent a fortune and installed snooker and pool tables and opened the whole upstairs to local youth to get them off the street and provided free soft drinks and daytrips as well.
The very fact that I as a Catholic was invited to supply the club was just one small part of what they were doing.
The only aggro or abuse I ever received in 10 years of going there was from the chairman who was a Man Utd supporter and slagged me off for being a Leeds fan.
I supplied all the Republican PD clubs for many years as well and there were plenty of arseholes in most of those so it's not all black and white or orange and green.
It never has been because I've seen so many unspoken crossovers between the communities that didn't suit the media agenda over the years and were never reported on.
It's only when you see people from one side of the divide working or drinking in a club run by the other side that you understand the smoke and mirrors in regard to what was really going on |
