Has anyone watched this Mini Series I watched it over the weekend on Netflix. It's about the Aids epidemic in the 80s and how it affected the LGBTQ community. What a roller coaster of emotions watching it I laughed I cried over it. Made me realise we are so lucky with how easy we can access contraception and get tested without any stigma around it. It's one of the best things I've watched in years parts of it are just so dark but funny it's so well written and the acting is so good highly recommend it your looking for something to watch

And as a reminder this is where you get free testing from the HSE

Yeah it's class.

Olly Alexander (who plays Richie) is playing Dublin this summer with his band Years & Years actually.

It's part of Pride and it's on in Collins Barracks

Also the series "Pose" on Netflix deals with similar issues.

It's set in NYC in the 80s

Brilliant

I heard it was good and my friends were raving about it

But it was first on Tv during Covid and I was too depressed as it was to watch a series about AIDS but I’ll get round to it some day

Watched it on channel 4 last year

They got the era spot on....still remember the time before AIDS when the biggest worry people had was an unplanned pregnancy

Then an unknown disease started making its way into our consciousness

Iceberg ads on the telly and gay men got the plague

Princess Diana Holding a victims hand made headlines around the world

It’s an amazing series. Pose is fantastic as well.

The new young adult one Heartstoppers is very good as well.

I find it very tough to watch. I have many gay friends and I ask a lot of questions. This may irk them but I have to ask. Like myself a lot were ra**d first which is beyond horrible. And went through a very thought time. I love these guys and wish I was as strong as them. And as a cis man (™®© buzzwords) I'd fight for them all.

It is probably the best depiction of that dark time (I remember only too well) I have ever seen. Excellent (yet so sad also) series.

What I did love was it shone a light on sexual health. In the UK HIV testing shot up drastically in the days after the first airing of the show. It's a grim topic but it was written so well to have joy between all the tears

I’m delighted to hear that Rosy as it’s such an important topic. The acting beautifully depicted many sides of love, sex and relationships. Seeing the real shame and stigma which accompanied those living through those times (and it was pretty grim in Ireland also) hopefully inspired others to seize the moment and care for their health. One of the best series I’ve seen in a long time...

and fantasticly. The year we have had ,a cure for aids has been found. It's a moment in history that hasn't been acknowledged

I'm trying not to create spoilers but I also felt sorry for the mother....its hard to watch something like that from our perspective now without judging but back in their day sometimes they were afraid

I felt slightly sorry for her - until the last part and was very annoyed by her. Given the efforts of the friends and her sons request...things could/should have been different.

But it does reflect the stigma, confusion, ignorance and fear that was rife then. Terrible sad times...

Watch it last year. Wonderful but absolutely harrowing story, the way people were treated.

The world needs more people like Jill though.

I saw it on tv when first out. It’s a great watch & as you say, it tickles all the humanity boxes.

The lady playing the mother of a lad was the real original friend to the boys who helped them.

Amazing lady.

Reminds me of the pertinent lyrics from the pet shop boys

All the people I was kissing

Some are here

And some are missing

In the 1990s

Included in the soundtrack i think.

Its a brilliant series, a dark piece of recent history superbly told and, in the sense of mysterious deadly viruses and societal reactions, was released at a poignant time xx

I was in the supermarket earlier and they played what have I done to deserve this? I think dusty really struggled with her sexuality . Also the PSBs were/are bloody amazing . They have a dozen 10/10 songs

The Land of Make Believe

Watched it when it was channel 4. Like Rosy, I laughed, I cried and I was angry. I was totally drained after it. Totally loved Olly Alexander such a powerful actor. I love Years and Years and had no idea Olly could act so so well.

Netflix is releasing another similar series, the name escapes me atm
