The number of reported cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has risen significantly since Covid-19 restrictions were lifted.
At least 45pc more cases are being reported now compared with a year ago.
Figures provided to the HSE by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) that cover the first 12 weeks of the year show a huge increase in most STIs compared with the same period last year.
HIV diagnoses are up more than 84pc from 71 to 131 and gonorrhoea cases are up more than 61pc from 368 to 594. Reported chlamydia cases went from 1,441 to 2,075, an increase of 44pc, and syphilis was up more than 30pc, from 159 to 207 cases.
The HPSC said the number of chlamydia and gonorrhoea cases includes some batch notifications of cases confirmed through the online STI testing service that may contain some numbers from last year.
The numbers of reported STIs began to fall at the start of Covid in early 2020, health experts said.
The HSE said potential factors behind the downward trend included a drop in sexual encounters as most social venues were closed.
Fewer people also presented themselves to GPs and STI clinics for testing, given there was a change in protocol as the HSE steered its resources toward Covid test analysis.
An HSE spokeswoman said that with restrictions lifted and social activity increasing, it is expected sexual activity will “have returned to pre-pandemic levels, resulting in an increase in the numbers of people in need of or seeking STI testing”.

After a previous post you did, I got one of these for the first time just this week (no issues or plans, just making sure)
Now I hate needles and the idea of the lancets that come with these tests but I have to say it's a great bit of kit. Took me about 10 minutes of pacing before doing it and it felt like nearly nothing.

The key to this is warm fingers. My first attempt had to be repeated as sample clotted took me 40 minutes as my fingers were cold. So do it after a hot shower and have cup of tea coffee etc to get those hands warm warm and it will take seconds. |

I could hardly get a drop out of my finger & had to give up 
maybe ill try the pacing next time to get the blood flowing! |

Regrettably, due to the overprescription of some antibiotics, and the use of these too in intensive agricultural businesses, that necessitate their use because of overcrowding that leads to much easier disease transmission, the treatability of some forms of STIs has been reduced.
Drug-resistance in some parts of GB has been causing concern in GUM clinics, especially in northern England, principally relating to a form of Gonorrhoea.
Unless one is with a regular trusted partner, or a trusted couple, who is tested regularly, BB sex is inadvisable.
Untreatable hepatitis is also increasing, and vaccination is available for some Hep strains.
What other conclusion is there, other than extreme care is required on every occasion, despite trite assurances!  |

Its very easy....just pick the collection point thats easy for you to get to collect the package |

First time I tried 40 minutes it took but they sent out new test as they can't test for certain STIs if blood has clotted. |

Wash your hands in warm soapy water and dry them making sure not to use overly perfumed soap or handcream. Press the pad of your middle finger up with your thumb before applying the lancet. If you apply the lancet to the side of your finger rather than the middle it will hurt less and produce more blood. Point your finger down and wait a few seconds before you massage the blood out and into the tube.
Failing all that, approach your nearest friendly neighbourhood diabetic and ask them to do it for you. These guys can get blood from fingers with the ferocity of a stare. Your fingers are virgin territory. |

Have kit now after getting the weirdest cold sore after going down on wife about 4wks ago. Was under middle of lip, quite large and painful but only lasted about 48hrs. Never had one like it before so, thankfully, Meath is now covered, so was able to order kit. Says that you should wait 7wks though for testing for HPV virus,so waiting to check and, if positive,an interesting conversation  |

This type of test doesn't cover all forms of STIs it usually only covers Syphilis Gonorrhoea HIV Chlamydia and in certain areas Hepatitis. So they don't test for HPV or HSV which is caused by two different but similar viruses: herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). Both kinds can make sores pop up on and around your vulva, vagina, cervix, anus, penis, scrotum inner thighs, lips, mouth, throat. But you could attend your local Sti clinic which are located in local hospital to get full screening. This free at home testing is great but a full screening is good to get as well.

This is a list of all the free STI clinics in Ireland. It's a great service free and confidential. It's run usually in hospital outpatients by midwives or nurses. I know when I attend Portlaoise it's around 4 weeks to get appointment and three weeks to get results. |

I was thinking this after doing it yesterday it doesn't cover all so I will still turn up when due at the clinic. These tests alsi don't have an anal swab so that must be done aswell. I always feel better when I do it anyway even with no symptoms, it can actually prevent me going with big groups and having lots of sex with different people all the time sometimes. |

go to RUMBLE and get the truth about vaccines /boosters ,you dont know whats in them and they didnt say and they wanted to hide it for 75yrs but court said release all info in batches try stew peters dan bongino,red pill 78,bannons war room but a few you will be horrified by things .we are not been told the truth .have a look.open mind ,i know on our screens it be different but we need the truth . |

I got one of these recently. Not that I'm actively doing anything at the moment, but I always like to check it off the list a couple of times a year. Condoms aren't 100% effective so. |

If you drink loads of water and soak your finger in warm water before hand it can help  |

The most prudent course is condoms and spermicide every time; but if real trust and regular testing routine is established, then possibly BB .
The risks, particularly post-Covid are simply too great. Untreatable STIs are a nightmare. |
