What are the opinions on this? I love wfh, I've been doing it for two years now with zero problems but the company I work for wants us to start coming back in two days a week and honestly the thought fills me with dread. I think I actually will quit if they demand it.
Has anyone here been forced to go back? Or is anyone here dying to go back? |

My son is back one day a week and 2 from next week
Hes a civil servant I'd prefer if he went back full time to give him a life again especially since a new bus route is from the road to a 10 min walk from his job instead of 2 buses each way
They haven't forced anyone to go back full time |

Ask them were you and them better off when you were working from home ? If so and it suited you better well then I'd stay at home , what are you gonna do in there in two days that you couldn't do at home ? Anyway working from home has its advantages ..cheaper in petrol or diesel expenses anyway ...plus no time hassle . |

I'm back about 2 days a week and I like the balance of home and office. My place is implementing a hybrid policy so people will be asked to return in some capacity eventually. But hasn't happened yet.
There's tons of remote opportunities out there now so if you're not happy going back in its a good time to look for what you want. |

I'm only assuming its down to wfh but I find i can't get through to any company I've tried to get through to.
From the companies/ customers point of view is staff at home really as productive? My ex reckons she doesn't get as much done at home. |

Never wanted to work from home but after adjusting I now love it and never want to go back to the office.
I'm lucky, I don't have to go back. Others I work with do and most are pretty upset about it.
I have zero tolerance for people anymore after enforced isolation....would be dangerous for me to go back now  |

You're lucky! I was never a fan of offices at all, used to just stick my headphones on and get on with things. |

Studies have shown that productivity has actually increased overall. Certainly figures with my company have been increasing! I get loads more done, workwise and also around the housewise |

Same here! Definitely less interrupted and saving an hour stuck in traffic every day |

Really? I wouldn't be that well up on it. They said today there won't be any extra heating allowances etc for people making that choice.
I know you said you used to put headphones on but I'd say I'd miss the comeraderie with colleagues though I'm in a workshop and not an office so not sure if that's normal in that scene. |

WFH has its advantages, no travelling, work at your own pace, but sometimes I found I got a lot more done WFH. They need to decentralised some government departments and other businesses from Dublin. Do not know how people did the long commutes to Dublin |

I like a nice mix!
WFH is great at times, but it can be so socially draining. I do love the social aspect of work, and I do find communicating issues is easier to get across in person.
I'll be allowed to work from home two days a week, thankfully. I'll take full advantage of it |

I don't see any rational reason for forcing people back into an office other than maybe it being easier to train/on-board people.
If a company doesn't want to allow for flexible working for its workers after it has been shown to be as successful (if not more successful) than on-prem working over the past two years its because: (a) they don't trust you or care about your happiness as an employee (b)they are a dinosaur of an organisation, or (c) A and B are true.
Can't tell you to quit not knowing your situation but no harm in seeing what other opportunities are out there. |

Weve been asked back, not full time but it's been made clear we won't be allowed wfh full time. I think at the minute companies are a bit reluctant to make any definitive statements on what they are going to do/allow.
Google are also getting their staff back in. The jobs market might not provide much full time wfh options, and the ones that do might be in very high demand.

Back one day a week from April. See how it goes, what suits / works for everyone and 2 days later in the summer, but unlikely to be more than that, unless you want that. Working remotely will be part of the mix from here on for lots of people.
Parts of Dublin are so quite with offices still closed. |

It would all depend on your job roll and position . Some need to be back at the office to deal with customers and some don't.
My job has about 200 wfh but some are been called back to the office.
Some full time some part time, down to roll again .
Me I was in work all the way through thankfully.
So nothing has changed for me .

One needs face to face contact with one's colleagues at least one to two days each week to feel part of an organisation, and to catch up on the latest developments etc.
Home working facilitates focus without interruption and self-management of one's own pace of working, particularly if one was previously being subjected to micromanagement or bullying.
Working exclusively from home is far too isolating; daily commuting is also something that has ended, mercifully.

I worked between the office (100km commute each way) and from .home and another office (13 mins from mine up until Apr 21 on shift work 60 hrs over 6 days, on Mon to Fri since Apr, and attended office on average once a week, when training would be in all week for 3 wks. Love the blended approach and thankfully my workplace will be sticking with it for the foreseeable future. I go in once a week at the moment and I'm.happy out with that. |

Office job can be done remotely in one's home place if they have good enough Internet, I work as a tradesman so need to be on the job its great the past few years with little traffic, Now all we need is the office wnkers clogging up the roads again |

We were already in a Hybrid setting before Covid. Covid made possible to move from Dublin as I have always hated to go to the new office. The last 2y have only proved that the organisations I work within the Company works even better remotely... However they want to move back to the 2 days in the office x week but they are not enforcing it yet (thank god).
At the moment, I am asked to go to the office 1 day every 2 weeks... And I hate it simply cause I am going to the office only to be "seen" and to spend time in Teams meeting with people at home or to do exactly what I do when I work from home...but "we need to use the space we have"... Company doesn't want to rent a building to keep it empty...
I am looking for a full remote new job

You could use it as and opportunity for coffee dates or naughty fabbing after work for those 1/2 days |

Even before covid I am lucky to have worked the hybrid model of a couple of days at home, couple in the office and some days on the road for site visits and could generally pick and chose which days we're spent where.
One thing I dislike about wfh is that somedays I feel I am at work as soon as I get out of bed.
But we have managed to squeeze some fab fun into the wfh days so there is that.

In today but because of office move and having to find a pc.
Did have meeting with vendors and boss together in office, vendor on Teams and it was quite productive.
So schedule accordingly and make the most of your day in office, helping to justify your days out of it as you agreed/decided on so much that you need alone time to write it all up  |
