I stopped watching porn sometime ago as it has a negative impact on me and I have one of those ‘addictive personalities .
Been reading a book recently which mentioned a number of socially responsible porn websites. It’s debatable whether the content even qualifies as porn hence the quotation marks . I might have a look at some point .
Is this a concept you have come across? Does it sound appealing ? Do you have a positive or negative relationship with porn ? Or a non existent one ? |

"A large amount of porn is violent, showing hatred towards women, degrading, and yet is obviously meeting a demand that exists. Otherwise it wouldn't be produced. Am I wrong? "
You are correct that there is demand for that content. The crucially important part for me though is that it's produced with full knowledge and consent of all the participants, and with responsible producers who treat the actors (and their limits) respectfully in preproduction and offcamera. Obviously this is not a given, and is very hard to gaurentee. The main issue as I see it is the studios content is amalgamated into the popular free streaming sites and they lose their provenance and will sit next to very questionably produced content. It's very difficult to maintain an ethical stance and be sure that what you are watching is "good" content when you are not sure where your content is from. Personally I believe that content that appears degrading or violent is a niche kink that many would find deeply unpleasant, but that should be allowed (with controls in place) for those who are happy to produce and act in that kind of content. Adults are able to consent to all kinds of sexual activity that others find unpleasant, but that doesn't mean they should be banned. Neither should there be an uncontrolled free for all with no regard given to the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved. |

Erika lust (I assume not real name) also directs this type of material |

There does seem to be a regrettable trend towards abusive and violent porn; but I prefer the more sensual interactions where the participants actually seem to be enjoying the experience even though this is probably faked.
Porn designed for female audiences seems to be of a more senual nature, whether hetero, bisexual, trans, lesbian, couples or group.

My favourite porn is "porn made by women". Its sensuous , erotic, and a story to it, and quite natural. Or home made, amateur, where its natural and passionate, often between two lovers. I know one of the actors in the series you mention OP, and hes a fine fella. |

"Or anyone interested in producing their own?"
From my experience, the greatest difficulty with making amateur porn is getting the lighting right
The venue has to be very well lit; bounced off the ceiling is usually best. |

Have had a similar experience as OP. I did subscribe to some queer porn and feminist porn sites as an alternative to the tube sites. Some nice videos but a lot of it was too arty! Fun to watch, but not something you'd have a wank to.
I stay away from tube sites these days though for ethical reasons, too much dubious content (is it consensual, is it revenge porn, etc), and because of the aforementioned trend towards abusive content in the professionally produced stuff.
I agree that only fans is probably the best route, or any other way to directly support content creators. But in terms of your personal relationship to it, if, like me, you can see an addictive streak in yourself, it might be best to leave it alone or at least only have a look very occasionally.
Had anyone watched The Deuce? Excellent series by the makers of The Wire on the "golden age" of porn, following sex workers transitioning from street work to peep shows and films. Maggie Gyllenhal is unreal in it, and the soundtrack is amazing! |

I think that if the actor's are comfortable with performing in the scene and give their consent it's their choice. If there was any producer's in Ireland north or south I would have applied to be one of the actors on the receiving side. |

Maggie is amazing in everything she does
I see she is directing now , with the lost daughter recently under her belt
I watched a bit of the deuce but the allegations about Franco make a controversial show unpalatable really
I am just gonna stay away tbh whether it’s socially responsible or not . A slippery slope I reckon for me

Yeah as Casual says, James Franco produced and starred that show is (at the very least) problematic. This is a minefield. |

Lust produces all kinds of porn, including some very beautiful films where the interaction is between men. I remember one set in Berlin where one of the guys is a refugee. To her credit, she's also done documentary porn about older lovers (in their 70s).
