Borrowed From the lounge
One of my all time favourites is I’ve loved you so long . Kristin Scott Thomas is ethereal as usual . It’s about a woman who is struggling to fit back into society after a long stretch in prison |

The Franchise Affair
Detective story about a girl who was allegedly held captive, and escaped, but her story is full of holes that are eventually exposed in court when the family are in the dock.
Dulcie Grey and her husband star; frequently broadcast on TPTV.

Stalag 17
One of the very best WW2 POW-prisoner of war-films, with a host of stars including a young William Holden, as a maligned profiteer who exposes a mole with the American prisoners. Made around 70 years ago, but well worth watching. The director Otto Preminger stars too. |

Paradise Lagoon
This film was made in late 1950s, but is set in the early 1900s: essentially, an aristocratic pampered family are marooned on an island with two of their servants: the butler and a maid. The butler, Kenneth More becomes the head, but they are rescued and return to England where the previous pecking order is restored. Diane Cilento Sean Connery's first wife, an Australian actress is the tweenie maid. I find it highly amusing.
Paradise Lagoon is the international title of this film, that is often known as The Admirable Crichton which is the butler's surname.
Younger audiences would never have heard of it, but it is a film with many layers. |

An Inspector Calls.
There have been several versions of this film, but I think the Alistair Sim version, from the 1950s is the best version.
A wealthy family have impacted the life of a young woman who took her own life. Inspector(Sim) calls at their home and the story unfolds; there are very many layers to this film that is based on a book by Graeme Green.
A complex stimulating watch; I think the book is often used in English literature classes in schools, at least in GB and NI. Educational film. |

The two Boulting Brothers, whom many modern filmgoers would never have heard of, made a series of highly satirical films about societal institutions. Private's Progress was about the army; Luck Jim was about university life; I'm Alright Jack was about consumerism and business; Heaven's Above: the church; and several others
The Boulting Brothers, John and Roy, really put the boot into everyone.
Superbly made, somewhat obscure but highly appealing to film buffs. |

"The Death of Stalin is as black a black comedy you'll ever find. Hugely entertaining.
Oooh I'm intrigued "
It's quite recent and well worth a watch. Steve Buscemi is brilliant in it as Khrushchev, and Michael Palin as Molotov. |

"There is a very decent danish film called the hunt with mads mikkelsen of casino royale fame "
Riders of Justice is another of Mads and the nerds in it are a scream. Well worth a watch. PS - subtitles only unless you are Danish. |

As it was nominated for an Oscar, mightn't be considered obscure but I never hear people talking about it.
Captain Fantastic with Viggo Mortensen about an off grid family having to kind of reintegrate with society. Very good film that will make you question a few things. Well worth a watch |

"The Scent of Green Papaya, in English, but much better in the original French. "
Ooh another French one I love is Les Choristes? It's a big warm hug in film form.
Or Brotherhood of the Wolf, though not sure that's obscure |

"F me!
The Room looks scary!
Oh! That reminds me, The Strangers! Based on real events and scared the crap out of me. Do NOT watch alone in a house!!"
Wait...
I was talking about different room, but after your comment went to see what was so scary and realised there's another movie called the room. Will be adding it to the watch list.
Film I was originally talking about is this one:
