On Friday of last week I joined the gym again after a 6 year absence. Feel I could do with losing a stone. What gym routine do you have if any at all? Any gym bunnies will to share their routine with me? |

Fair play to you OP.
I've just started back myself. It's tough to get motivated after a long break. The hardest part is the start.
As for sharing a routine - your routine should be tailored to your needs, requirements and preferences.
For a start, there's no point in you warming up for 10 minutes on the treadmill if you despise running or have issues with your knees, as an example.
I suggest you talk to the staff at the gym you're attending and ask them to put together a program for you. Any decent gym will have that as part of their service. Tell them what you particularly enjoy and particularly dislike. This will stop you feeling like it's a chore. The worst thing you can do, is choose activities you don't enjoy - you're setting yourself up for failure.
They should review the program in 6 weeks time and mix it up for you so boredom doesn't set in and your body gets to feel and work muscles in different ways. Setting different challenges and working with your body as your fitness, strength and flexibility improves.

If you're doing anything with weights, ease your way back into it. Nothing will put you off consistently going like heavy DOMS if you rush back into heavy weights |

I'm not a gym bunny as I rarely lift anything heavier than a surfboard. I would advise anyone to begin their fitness journey with lots of cardio for several months before hitting the weight room. I see lots of out of shape guys lifting heavy weights... most of en are walking heart attacks.. |

No harm to you, but that's complete nonsense. You literally said you don't lift, why would you bother giving advice?
OP.. Get a couple of sessions with a PT then ask if they can provide a basic structured program. A balance of easy cardio and progression on weights. But first and foremost, get your eating habits sorted. Fatloss happens in the kitchen. Eat what you enjoy, just a bit less, and protein at every meal. All the best |

OP, cardio exercise will make you lose weight really fast even when you're sleeping. You only need 3 days a week of 30-45mins each day. Good luck with the challenge. |

To be honest I’m slowly easing myself back in getting used to the machines again. In the past I’d have done out my own routines. No for ever day of the week. Day on, day off at the gym. Getting a personal trainer for a few sessions I feel would be a good idea, make sure I’m doing things correctly. At the moment I’m just doing a mixed of cardio and weights noting to heavy. |

Ask the gym PTs to do up a program for you, they know best as most went to college |

Monday chest shoulders triceps cardio
Tuesday back biceps cardio
Wednesday legs
Thursday rest
Friday chest back cardio
Saturday shoulders arms cardio
Sunday rest
All of the above means F all without a diet tho |

Just do what is comfortable for you , you want to enjoy it and you do NOT want it to be a struggle or get any injuries from it , remember you are NOT in competition with others it is for you and YOU alone , find what you enjoy doing and do it , give your body time to recover and watch what you eat , there is no point is going to the gym if you are stuffing your face before or afterwards .Enjoy it and look forward to it and be kind to yourself . |

You could lose a stone in less than a mónth with diet alone.no gym or cardio.
Diet is key.
Cut calories but do t starve yourself.. Lose the processed food..
If you join gym or doing cardio I wouldn't cut the calories as much. Just tidy up the diet.
And foremost do t listen to anyone do a routine you will stick to and enjoy. That's most of the battle

This is gas, you tell him what he said is nonsense, but then give the same advice yourself, just saying it differently. So try loose some weight first and work cardio, they way you prep your body for weight training instead of just diving in with too much too soon!! |

Agree with all comments above about focusing on your diet. I see people pounding the pavement in an effort to lose weight but it doesn't happen because they can't out-train a poor diet.
Plus it's not a case of eating less (as someone suggested) but about eating differently while still enjoying the occasional treat.
I found Slimming World brilliant for losing weight but the hard bit is maintaining it afterwards and some of their recipes I still use 5 years on. Good luck OP |

I found a great all body workout on Men's Health YouTube about a year ago. I've adapted it slightly for my needs/ability but was great for me getting back into the gym after the lockdowns.
There is literally mountains of fitness advice/content out there but everyone is individual and you need to find what works for you. |

Reduce calorie intake, eat as much veg, VEG not vag as you want !! Granted eating vag is a brilliant way to take your mind off your weight issues
Basic approach
Reduce the white stuff like spuds, rice and pasta. Redred meat, increase fish diet and again eat shitloads of veg.
Walk, jog ,run, cycle
Weight will reduce |

I used to be a gym bunny, years ago, but swapped it for walking and forest bathing: rain, wind or shine, which is intensely therapeutic.
Mountain walking is really excellent too; I now find gyms too restrictive; individual exercise out in the fresh air is much more relaxing.

To lose a stone of actual tissue mass in one month is nearly impossible.
Weight yes, but a large majority of that will be water as most people cut carbs and first 2 weeks is mostly fluid weight coming off.
Just aim for a moderate deficit and 1-2lbs a week loss, more sustainable than a ridiculous crash diet that usually just results in rebounding and gain all the weight back. |

Firstly you won’t lose a stone in the gym , exercise will help but the kitchen is where all the magic happens….. workout what your daily kcal intake is and reduce it … ?????? |

Lots of advice here, but it’s going to come down to trial and error with yourself some stuff will work others won’t. Definitely getting a program and meeting a nutritionist will save you a lot of time |

Best thing I done was get a PT its money well spent I think. He gives me a meal plan and training plans every 2-3weeks and I check in each week with pictures my current weight and fill out a questionnaire. And he makes adjustments as needed. Its good to have someone to be accountable to cause It helps the motivation.
I’ve always been told training and working towards what ever goal be it body building/strength/cutting etc. It’s 30%training thats the easy part and 70% diet thats the tough part. |
