I know this is probably a stupid question but is there anything apart from sleep for jetlag? It has really knocked me sideways as i just returned from Miami via Lisbon to Dublin yesterday and delays all over the shop on the way home. Now im not stranger to transatlantic flights but this one has me knackered! maybe im just getting a little bit older and the body can't handle the 11hr flights anymore haha. |

Heading east is always harder to reacclimatize oneself than heading west. I usually take one night with the former and a week on the latter.
A bit late, but I suggest switching to the the zone you will be going to once you walk onto on the plane. So you get on the plane at 10 pm, but it's 6 am where you are going, then you stay awake for the flight.
Bar that, a heavy session one evening once you have gotten back helps get me back on local time as the issue of falling asleep is taken out of my hands. |

As I had a Green Card, I used to travel to the US very frequently, years ago; dehydration on some flights is a major problem for me; on returning home I go to bed after having consumed a couple of pints of water or milk, in a blacked-put room with all phones switched off.
If dehydration has caused a headache, take some mild painkillers.
I used to rest for as long as it took to recover, even if that meant a full day or more in bed.
There are no quick fixes. |

The thing I started doing a few years ago was start sleeping at times where it can be an afternoon nap in one timezone and nighttime sleep in the other. The body finds it easier to fall asleep at those times, and then it's easier to choose the new one as the option you want to go for.
I still find I need the first weekend after to be fully alert, but it definitely helps me to function much better. |
