Most people will know what social engineering involves but very few take it seriously and continue to play and share all those little FB games that pop up on their feeds and then wonder why they are being targeted with scam texts and calls.
Sports washing is when organisations such as FIFA allow events to be held in countries like Russia which then legitamises that regime.
In a fab context it's often said we shouldn't take things too seriously but is everyone really so laid back in regard to their fab interactions or so trusting that they don't notice the personal information they are revealing or is there a conscious decision to ignore because it's all a bit of fun?
Do we turn a blind eye to the not so subtle washing?

We surely do turn a blind eye to it,even here on fab
Look at the conlan thread, not a mention of corruption, money laundering or sport washing.
It doesn't have to be a regime or state,it can be an individual or organised crime gang as in mtk global and their boxers

I'm quite aware when I do or don't leak personal info here.. but I don't mind much as I don't have much to hide. Our friends and family know exactly what we are like so we aren't much of a blckmail risk. It's the best way to mitigate against these things in my opinion. |

I would actually say the best example of "sports washing" here would be someone rude and disliked, who ran events and parties that people went to even though they were awful themselves. Ikandi comes to mind. |

I make up my own mind about people based on their behaviour towards others and our own interaction with them, I really don't care how many people insist they are everything that fab is about. |

I agree that it can also apply to individuals and organisations and that's why I feel it is relevant to fab interactions.
Subtle concessions and profile adjustments when certain subjects are discussed on the forums.
Those with a history of predatory behaviour and/or being removed from events or chatgroups for sharing inappropriate material are now seen by some as safe and approachable because they have been legitamised by more recent associations. |

Likewise and the more people insist someone is everything that fab is about the less I am inclined to fall for it. |

I'd be very careful on stories I believe here about anybody.
Character assassination is regular.and worse.
I remember a very well known,at the time, female forumite accused a guy of sexual assault at a hotel after a social.
When I say accused I mean by saying it here on forums.
Guy was very distressed and was going to go to Cops about it until 2 women who were forum friends with her came forward and said they were there at the time of alleged assault and nothing of the sort happened.
She disappeared but I'm sure has been back and probably still here

That's the thing though. I don't believe any of those stories especially the unsolicited ones people I've never spoken to before send in private messages. Some of those are designed to gauge my reaction so they can pass it on to the people the stories are about.
I'm talking specifically about actions I've personally witnessed and don't need a second opinion on.

Fab is full of contradictions and hypocrisies, why should it be any different than the society/world we live in?
I try to steer clear of coat changing wolfes, drama moths, crowd pleasers, venomus snakes, naive sheeps etc. As a non-member of the swinging community it isn't too difficult. |

It happens quite a bit on fab. People turn blind eyes to quite a bit on here when it suits them.Complete inconsistencies tend to get ignored. Some people openingly admit they want gossip on others and others more than willing to give it as long as it keeps them in with the with them.
But as doghunter says here is no different to real life. And it's always going to be that way.
The best way is to concentrate on your own journey.Be careful with whom you share personal info with. And don't believe everything you hear either make up your own mind and don't be swayed by popular opinion.
